SCIENCE of INNOVATION special unified multifaceted multidimensional discipline. It is a body of knowledge under dynamic theoretical development.
WHY STUDY in ENGLISH To advance one’s English To make acquaintance with many aspects of innovative agenda To critically consider how best to advance one’s innovative abilities because…
‘To be or not to be innovative’ is a fundamental question for the entire world
What is innovation inventing something new generating new ideas only improving something that already exists spreading new ideas performing an existing task in a new way following the leader in your sphere
What is innovation adopting something that has been successfully tried elsewhere introducing changes attracting innovative people seeing something from a different perspective
Therefore innovation may be: A product A process A set of ideas (particularly in education)
The word ‘innovate’ comes from the Latin word ‘innovare’ - ‘to renew, to make new’. A wide range of definitions of innovation – from very complex to very minimalist ones. Up to now - no generally accepted single clear-cut definition of innovation. The complexity of innovation and variations in the way it occurs.
Innovation is the generation, acceptance, and implementation of new ideas, processes, products, or services. original, solution-oriented actions that address previously unsolved problems in unique and creative ways. creative destruction.
Innovation is the introduction of novelties. the development and implementation of new ideas by people who over time engage in transactions with others in an institutional context. the process of applying novel in your own context as ‘there’s nothing new under the sun’.
What is the difference Innovation – invention Innovation – change Innovation- creativity
Innovation – invention ‘Invention’ is often defined as a new thing, method, instrument or device created by thought. The emphasis is on a product, object or process.
While ‘innovation’ includes the creation of an object, it is much broader than this. It might also include a set of ideas or beliefs, a way of thinking about a problem or set of issues, a process of organising or solving problems, a set of practices or ways of doing something.
Innovation – invention Some say that invention is a breakthrough and innovation is an actualization (impact on societies and market).
Innovation – change Innovation presupposes something new while change doesn’t always imply newness and may be for the better and may be for the worse.
Innovation- creativity Psychological - historical creativity ideas that are novel for oneself vs. novel for humankind
Innovation-creativity Creativity appears to be understood more as absolute novelty (bring into existence) rather than the relative novelty of innovation (bring in novelties).
Innovation- creativity It’s a disputable question why it is that some individuals are exceptionally able to generate new ideas and others not.
GENIUS Comment upon Thomas Edison’s famous analysis of genius – that it is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration
GENIUS Inspiration is unreliable, incapable of being enacted at will, so would-be innovators can derive few benefits from it. The perspiration account, however, fails to explain how people generate insightful, non-obvious vision that result in major innovative breakthroughs.
GENIUS Thus, the poetic qualities that make Edison’s epigram memorable also make it perhaps misleading (!?)
To discuss The problem with creativity is that it is vague. At the individual level, creativity may be defined as ‘seeing what everyone sees and thinking what no one has thought before’ or ‘ looking at the same thing as everyone else and thinking something different’.
Generating New Ideas The innovation flow – it must be a NEW thing "is it really new? "is the idea, the product, the process really something new, revolutionary?
"is it a new application/use of an existing technology? "is it something completely new?
