Non-state Educational Establishment Orthodox Classical Gymnasium School “Kovcheg” True Story of Creation of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland Student: Rudaya Polina Korolyov 2015
Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.
…Nobody knows exactly, how it was created, but we can explain it…
The idea for the novel came when Carroll went rowing up the river with three young girls: Lorina, Edith and Alice.
Alice’s character was based on a real life little girl, named Alice Liddle.
The title for the original novel was «Alice’s Adventures Under Ground».
It was first published on November 26, 1865 by Macmillan Publishers.
In the first publication there was no Chesire Cat and Mad Hatter.
In Chesire kingdom people sold a cheese, which was similar to smiling cat.
The Chesire Cat’s tree stands in the garden behind Alice’s home at Christ Church College, Oxford.
The inspiration for the 'mad hatter' came from Lewis Carol's good friend, Theophilus Carter.
To fall down into a Rabbit-Hole means «To change your consciousness».
Lewis Carroll indentified himself with the Dodo.
THE PHRASE “AS MAAD AS A HATTER” REFES TO THE 19TH CENTURY USAGE OF A MERCURY-BACED COMPOUND IN MAKING OF FINE HATS.
Alice is admired by the reader.
Nonsense literature presents language and situations which are not normal.
Nonsense in the book, seems to be nothing more than childish fantasy but Lewis Carroll goes far beyond this!
Sir John Tenniel ( 28 February, 1820 – 25 February, 1914) was an English illustrator. In 1865 he illustrated the first edition of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
One of the secrets of life is that all that is really worth the doing is what we do for others.
