 Georgi Vasiljevich Sviridov is the greatest Russian composer of the 20-th century. He was born near Kursk in 1915.

Georgi Vasiljevich was fond of music since childhood. His mother sang him beautiful Russian songs and taught him to play the piano.   He began composing at the age of nine.

In 1932 he moved to Leningrad. He graduated from the conservatoire in 1941. His teacher was D. D. Shostakovich.

Sviridov has been creating wonderful music. In his music he uses folk melodies for the description of Russian nature.

Georgi Vasiljevich has created magic music on the verses of the greatest Russian poets: A. Pushkin, F. Tutchev, A. Block and S. Esenin.

Our native land, Russian nature, Russian poets gave him inspiration on composing the music that touches everybody's heart.

It was in Suzdal in a wooden church, here, in this place he created, musical illustrations to A. Pushkin's story "Snow-storm".

Sviridov died on the 6th of January in 1998. Novodevichie kladbische He is buried in Moscow.

This monument is situated in his native town - Kursk
