  The National Library of Russia in
   Saint-Petersburg (known as the Imperial Public Library from 1795 to 1917; Russian Public Library from 1917 to 1925; State Public Library from 1925 to 1992 ) is not only the oldest public library in the nation, but also the first national library in the country. The NLR is currently ranked among the world’s major libraries. It has the second richest library collection in the Russian Federation, a treasury of national heritage, and is the All-Russian Information, Research and Cultural Center.

  Nevsky Prospect is the meeting place of literary heroes and their creators. Gogol was inspired by the beauty of it and wrote the novel “Nevsky prospect” Deceiving Nevsky turns the reality for Arbenin-the hero of Lermontov. He suffers from jealousy at the masquerade taking place at the house of Endelgardt (now The Small Hall of the Saint-Petersburg Philharmony which is one of the best chamber Concert Halls in the world with first-class acoustics).

  Moika 12-The Memorial Apartment of Alexander Pushkin.
  The family of Pushkin lived here from September 1836.
  The author was brought here after the duel on the 27 January and died on the
  29 January 1837.
  Among the exhibits of the museum there are a lot of things that belonged to the poet and his family.

  The Summer Garden. Pushkin loved to go for a stroll here as well as his hero- Onegin. Raskolnikov, thinking about the crime to commit, was walking here and dreaming of fresh air of the garden to clean the
  soul of the city.
  You can find the first monument to the Russian writer-Krylov in the Summer Garden. The bronze statue of the poet is surrounded
  by the characters of his fables on the basement of the monument.
  It was opened in 1855 and since then it decorates the central lane.

  The house of Natalia Golicina. It is Malay Morskay 10.
  Pushkin wrote “The queen of spades” in 1833. After the publication some people noticed similar features in his hero and the duchess Natalia Golicina. She was from the noble family and very beautiful in youth.
  Some people said that she knew the cards’ mystery. She lived 94 years.

  The place of the duel of Pushkin and
  D” Anthes . It happened on the 27 January 1837. It was caused by the gossip about
  his wife-Natalia Goncharova.
  The distance between the opponents was only 20 steps.
  Pushkin was mortally wounded.

  Literature Museum of the Russian Academy of Science is located
  in Makarov Embankment 4.
  It contains 300 000 exhibits of paintings, drawings, documentaries,
  historical materials. You can see the original drawings of Lermontov,
  handwritings of famous Russian poets and writers Derzhavin, Zhukovsky,
  Goncharov, Tolstoy, Polonsky, Gogol, Lermontov, Turgenev.

  The writer lived with his family here from 1878 till his death in 1881.The novel ”Karamazov brothers” was written
  here (1879-1880).
  It is one of the 6 museums of Dostoevsky.
  It is not only the memorial museum, but the literary museum as well.
  One can watch literary films, listen to lectures and discussions.
