which stands near the Thames.
There are two tall towers at the corners of the building
and one of them is the Clock Tower.
The houses of Parliament is the seat of
the British government.
Big Ben is one of the
most famous clocks in the world.
The tower and the
clock were built
in 1858.

The clock has four faces and a very
big loud bell. The bell weighs 13 tons.
The man in charge of the building was
Sir Benjamin Hall.This man was
very tall, and the workers and his friends
called him Big Ben. So they called the
bell Big Ben too.

Palace

of the British Monarch.
It is situated at the end of a wide avenue,

The Queen's real home is Windsor Castle that is

The Tower is a very old building. It is more
than nine hundred years old.
Its history is long and fascinating although
sometimes tragic. It is the most famous fortress
in the world.
William the Conqueror started to build it
in 1076. The internal court of the fortress
is surrounded by high walls with

Each tower has its own name.

From the 13th century until the
16th century it was a royal residence.
Then it became a prison for enemies
of the Monarch. Many people were executed there.
Now the Tower of London is a museum.

At 10 o'clock every evening the guards
lock the big doors of the Tower for the night.

statue of Admiral Nelson.
This impressive monument was created in the memory
of the victory of Admiral Nelson over the Spanish fleet in 1805.
The battle took place at Cape Trafalgar in the
Straits of Gibraltar on October 21, and became
a turning point in a very long war.
The column is 50 m high,
on its top you can see
a 5 m stone statue of Admiral Nelson.
