Alexei Abrikosov was born June 25, 1928 in a family of prominent pathologists - Head of the Department of Pathological Anatomy of the Second Moscow State University ( 1930 - I of Moscow Medical Institute ) Academician Alexei Ivanovich Abrikosov and the Department of assistant dissector Kremlin hospital Fani Davidovna Wolfe .
After leaving school in 1943 he began to study energy technology , but in 1945 switched to the study of physics. After graduating in 1948, the Faculty of Physics of Moscow State University wrote under the direction of Landau's thesis entitled " Thermal diffusion in fully and partially ionized plasma " and defended it in 1951 in the Institute for Physical Problems in Moscow.
After the defense , he was at the institute and in 1955 defended his doctoral work on quantum electrodynamics at high energies. In 1965 he headed the Department of Theoretical Physics of continuous media in the newly founded Institute of Theoretical Physics .
Since 1975 - Honorary Doctor of the University of Lausanne . In 1991 he accepted an invitation from the Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois and moved to the US in 1999, became an American citizen .
In 1988, Abrikosov issued tutorial " Fundamentals of the theory of metals ," written on the basis of his lectures at MSU , MIPT and MISA . In the United States , he taught at the University of Illinois (Chicago ) and the University of Utah . In England, he taught at the University of Loughborough .
Alexei Abrikosov married, raised two sons and a daughter.
In 2011 , AA Abrikosov , was nominated for the deputies of the European Jewish Parliament (EJP) from the Russian Federation .
