Its depth is 1642 meters. Baikal water is unique and surprising. It is unusually transparent, pure and saturated with oxygen. Lake Baikal is a habitat for many unique plants and animals. Here meets 27 species of fish that lives exclusively in the waters of lake Baikal.
In addition to the "big" lake Baikal in Russia there are still a few water bodies with a similar name. There are even other lakes in Yakutia and Tomsk region.
The Baikal is one of the few lakes that are often called the sea. Formally this status was awarded to the Caspian and the Aral seas.
