CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR On the 25th of December the British people celebrate Christmas. It’s a big holiday and there are lots of Christmas traditions in Britain. Every year Londoners get a present from the people of Norway – a big Christmas tree. It stands in Trafalgar Square. Some weeks before Christmas English people are busy. They send greeting cards to relatives and friends. People usually decorate their trees on Christmas Eve – on the 24th of December. On Christmas Eve people put their presents under the tree. Many children believe that Santa Claus comes at nights and brings presents. Christmas Day is the time for presents, guests, wishes and special meal. The day after Christmas is Boxing Day. This day people usually give and receive presents. This is time to visit friends and relatives or to sit at home and watch TV.
