Marriage by banns Marriage by banns is the form most usually adopted. A requirement for banns of marriage was introduced to England and Wales by the Church in 1215.
Marriage by ordinary license Marriage by ordinary licence is a convenient alternative to the publication of banns. Marriage licenses were introduced in The 14th century.
Marriage by special license Marriage by special license costs 5 pounds and can be obtained only for special reasons. Application must be made by one party to the Faculty Office. The marriage then can take place at any time, in any place.
Marriage by a register Marriage by a register can be celebrated, without any religious ceremony, at a registry office.
