On January 29,1951 the Soviet Union launched the rocket carrying the dogs Tsygan and Dezik into space, but not into orbit. They got to the altitude of 87 km and were landed by the help of the parachute. Dezik Tsygan
In 1957, Laika became the first animal launched into orbit, paving the way for human spaceflight. Laika died during the flight, as it was intended because the technology to return from orbit had not yet been developed.
The dog died and some American women from Mississippi state sent a letter to Soviet Nations. They demanded to judge inhuman attitude towards to the dogs in the Soviet Union. What did they suggest for developing of the Science? Oh! They suggested to launch into Space little Negro children from their state.

On August 19, 1960 Sputnik 5 carried the dogs Belka and Strelka. It was the first spacecraft to carry animals into orbit and return them alive. They were launched from Baikonur.
