What is a hobby? Tastes differ. Different people like different things, different people have different hobbies. But what is a hobby? A hobby is something you like doing in your free time. Hobby is occupation, which is done not for money, but for pleasure. Different people get pleasure from doing different things, as very person has his/her own likes and dislikes. People choose their hobbies according to their tastes, style, their financial state and education. Without them our life becomes boring and uninteresting. Hobby can be divided into four groups : doing things, collecting things, making things and learning things.
Doing things It includes a wide variety of activities: going to the cinema or theatre; playing computer games; traveling; gardening (gardening is very popular in England); reading; doing extreme sports; listening to music; playing a musical instrument; etc.
Collecting things The most popular hobby groups is collecting things, because almost everyone collect something at some period in his life. Collecting: stamps; coins; matchboxes; post cards; toys; books; CDs or DVDs; etc.
Making things It includes: drawing; painting; making sculpture; designing costumes; handicrafts; knitting; etc.
Leaning things One more kind of hobby is learning something. People learn: foreign languages; different special subjects; law; etc.
My hobbies As for me, I have different hobbies: reading, playing the piano, listening to music, playing computer games and so on. Reading helps me to lean new information. It develops my memory and my imagination. There are different authors, different genres. One of my favorite books is “The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas” by John Boyne. Computer games develop memory because when you play them you try to remember all details. They also develop logical thinking, my language and basic computer skills. To my mind, it is necessary to have a hobby.
