ECOLOGICAL SITUATION IN RUSSIA Environmental pollution exceeds sanitary standards. The quality of potable water does not meet regulatory requirements. Soil productivity is falling. Rare species are becoming extinct. Deforestation is growing.
Russia spends 0.8 per cent of GDP for environment protection measures. Over 15 per cent of Russian territory is in unsatisfactory ecological conditions.

The main reason of ecological crisis in Russia is inappropriate ecological culture. Ecological culture is the study of human adaptation to social and physical environments.
WORLD’S NATURAL HERITAGE
PROTECTION OF THE WORLD’S NATURAL HERITAGE 1972 The United Nation Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) General Conference adopted the World Heritage Convention.
The Convention’s aim is to identify natural and cultural places in the world with outstanding values, to ensure the protection for the benefit of all humanity through a closer cooperation among nations.
The UNESCO World Heritage List includes 188 natural, 745 cultural and 28 mixed natural and cultural properties in 157 countries of the world.
“Open Initiative on the Use of Space Technologies to Support the World Heritage Convention” The goal is to develop a framework of cooperation, open to space agencies, institutions, non-governmental organizations and private sector.
RUSSIAN NATURAL PROPERTIES. LAKE BAIKAL
Baikal is under serious threat The quality of water is deteriorating. Seals and several types of fish are in decline. The Baikal’sk Pulp And Paper Mill has polluted the surrounding region.
UTILIZATION OF INDUSTRIAL WASTE Denmark produces 13 million tons of waste every year. 60% of all waste is recycled.
More than 60 000 homes were destroyed. 840 000 people were evacuated. Total damage was estimated at 3.2 billion rubles. NATURAL DISASTERS. FLOOD IN THE FAR EAST
