  In the middle of the 15 century some European countries began to send their ships to discover the new lands. One of the explorers was Christopher Columbus from Spain. The discovery of America took place in 1492.

  The national flag of the USA is called “Stars and Stripes”. It has 13 red and white stripes and 50 stars on the blue field. The national Symbol of the USA is the bald eagle. It symbolizes freedom and independence.

  Washington monument One of the most impressive sights in Washington is the famous Washington Monument. It looks like a huge pencil and it is called “The Pencil”. The Monument was constructed in 1888. It is the highest construction in the USA. There is an elevator in the monument which brings visitors to the top of it.
