Having decided to be parents, Americans give birth to 2-3 children together. They believe that it is difficult for an only child to grow up among adults.To their mind, it’s much easier to bring up children of the same age: they have similar interests. Parents can easily get over age difficulties when there are a few kids in the family. American mothers hesitate to send their babies to day-care-centers, as they prefer being involved in the process of education by themselves.
One of the traits of American lifestyle is to take children everywhere with them,even babies. If young parents want to go out with their mates and there is nobody to look after a baby, they take him with them. Kids behave as usual : sleep, sit on parents’ knees, sometimes cry. But nobody is surprised much less irritated with this thing.There are special areas in all public places, where you can change babies’ clothes, feed babies. Most restaurants can entertain the little, offer them colored crayons and paper . Americans are used to living without parents since the age of 17. They can’t rely on the help of grandparents. And that is not generally accepted. It’s quite difficult to pay 5 $ per hour to a babysitter as (the average salary is 8-12 per hour).
The ground rule of the American educational system is created: any punishment has to be followed by a detailed explanation of its motives. By the American psychiatrists it is proved that after conversation with the child the conceived punishment does not seem such justified any more.
That’s the key point the American educational system differs from the Russian one. After all we still have the controlling style of education of children where hard and fast rules and norms regulate development of the child. Parents achieve obedience of children in America due to suggestion, and in Russia due to psychological or physical impact.
Fathers more often walk with American children And, the situation when a mother works, and a father sits with children, also is more often than it’s in Russia. So the involvement of grandmothers into the process of education doesn’t precisely exist in America. The American grandmothers are mostly vigorous working ladies who are sincerely glad to tinker with the child during a week-end, but no more than that.
Of course, and in the American educational system there are some disadvantages, for example, relation to education of the child. Many parents are not engaged in it, as a result children are admitted to school without being able to read and write. The American educational system can prepare creative persons that can think not standardly. But at the same time this system is often not capable to bring up the obedient workers who follow the orders of the chief.
