The Commonwealh of Australia is the official name of Australia. It is a self-governing federal state. The Queen Elizabeth II is the head of state.
The small Union Jack represents the historical link with Britain, the large seven-pointed star represents the six States and Territories, and the small stars from the Southern Cross – a prominent feature of the southern hemisphere night sky. The flag of Australia
The Australian coat of arms Australia's coat of arms – the official emblem of the Australian Government. It was granted by George V in 1912. The arms consist of a shield containing the badges of the six states. The supporters are native Australian fauna – a kangaroo and an ostrich emu.

In 1770 the English captain James Cook discovered the east coast of Australia. He was sent to discover the huge land that many people believed was south of the equator. He landed south of present day Sydney in New South Wales. He claimed this part of the land for the King of England. (1728 – 1779) In 1851 gold was discovered about 300 km west of Sydney. People rushed to the gold fields to find their fortunes. This attracted robbers called bushrangers.
Aborigines are the Australian natives that had been living there for thousands of years before the first Europeans came to Australia in the 1600s.
The First people in Australia were Aborigines. They arrived there about 12,000 years before from southern Asia. They had very rich forms of art, painting, song, poetry and mythology. The lives of aborigines stayed almost the same for thousands of years until the Europeans came to live in Australia in 1778. In 1770 J. Cook landed in eastern Australia and declared that it belonged to Britain. In 1778, the British government began sending the first prisoners to Australia. Overtime many people arrived from Britain and Europe. Life was difficult. There was very little water and the climate was very hard. The Europeans suffered a lot in Australia but the Aborigines suffered a lot more. Europeans stole their land and killed thousand of Aborigines. They also brought new diseases with them. In parts of Australia, not one Aborigine survived. Today aborigines continue to live in Australia but there culture in under threat. In 1770, there were about 300,000 Aborigines. Now, there are 120,000. It is becoming harder and harder for them to continue their traditional way to live. The First Australians

The dingo is one of Australia’s wild animals. It is reddish, brown or yellow. It is a wild dog, which kills other animals at night. They can kill sheep, hens, chickens and small dogs. Kangaroos live only in Australia. The kangaroo has got a pouch in which she carries her babies. They can jump. They are very beautiful and interesting animals. They are not dangerous for people. Koalas live in Australia. Koala is one of Australian animals. They are interesting. They live in trees. Ostrich Emu is the most interesting bird in Australia. It is big and can’t fly.
This echidna is one of the Australian animals. It is like a hedgehog. It has long nose. Australian Wombat
Tasmanian Devil lives on the Tasmanian Island which is on the south of Australia. This animal measures 90 cms long and 30 cms at the shoulder. Tasmanian Devils sleep by day in well-hidden dens and hunt at night. This spider lives in Australia. It is big and very dangerous . It can kill people. It has many legs.
Another interesting bird of Australia is Cocatoo. There is a National Park of Cocatoos in Australia. It is one of the dangerous snakes in the world. Its poison will kill people and animals.
Australia’s climate is dry and warm. January is the hottest month in Australia. It is situated in the southern hemisphere and that’s why they have their summer when we have our winter and they have their winter when we have our summer.
Natural Resources of Ausralia Australia has a lot of natural resources. The natural resources of Australia are: coal, nickel, zink, gold.
Agriculture in Australia Australia is a major agricultural producer and exporter. It produces a wide variety of fruit, nuts, vegetables. The largest crops include oranges, apples, bananas, chestnuts, potatoes. Queensland and the Northern Territory produce tropical fruits such as bananas, mangoes and pineapples. Australia has a large wine industry. Australia also produces wheat and sugar. Australia exports meat since 1969. It is the second largest beef exporter in the world.
