Musa Dzhalil 15.02.1906 – 25.08.1944
My life is for people, all forces to them, I'll die for my people, And I am going to serve to a grave!
Musa Dzhalil was born in a Tatar village Mustafino, in the former Orenburg province on February 15, 1906 in a rather poor family.
At the age of six, Musa began studying in a village school, where he learnt by heart a little сур from the Koran. Later, he studied in Orenburg in "Husayeny's" madrasah.
After the civil war, he entered the philological faculty of the Moscow State University. After graduation, in 1931,he was sent to Kazan.
The War When the Second World War began, he was called up to the army. He was a correspondent of the army newspaper "Otvaga".
On June 26, 1942 Zalilov Musa with the group of officers, was ambushed by Hitlerites.
In that chamber, he was waiting for his death
Looking through these poems, it is possible to judge that his life in captivity was very severe. He could take out all physical sufferings, but the separation from his family, the homeland was for him unbearable.
«There is a life behind the death. Life in consciousness, in memory of people» Musa Dzhalil
Before Death The road of righteous struggle I trod To reach my goal I failed My foes have severed with a hot Bullet the thread of fate… My living heart a needle smites, Blood runs in a weak jet. I see my shirt that once was white In scarlet now and wet. I do not grieve. To you, my friends, True friendship do I wow, My shirt that once was snow-white With bloody flowers now. Pray! Hang it on a willow bough For everyone, to view, There let it blow to scare the foe And remember me to you! Musa Dzhalil Translation by Dmitry Priyatkin
