The National Gallery in London. The UK. It represents all the leading schools of European painting from the 12th to the early 20th centuries. Pictures of Rembrandt, Turner, Monet, da Vinci, Constable and other great masters are on display in the gallery.
The Tate Gallery. London. The UK. It is one of London’s best – known art galleries, opened in 1897 with the financial support of Sir Henry Tate, who also gave a collection of 65 paintings. The Gallery contains a unique collection of British paintings from the 16th century to the present day.
The Victoria and Albert Museum. London. The UK. It is one of the world’s outstanding art museum. It is housed a national collection of fine and applied art of all countries and periods, especially collections of sculptures, water – colors, miniatures and a large art library. In 1899 the Museum was given its present name in honor of Queen Victoria and her husband Prince Albert.
The British Museum. London. The UK. It has a priceless art collection of antiquities from almost every period and every part of the world. It houses superb collections of prints and drawings, ethnography.
The Hermitage. St. Petersburg. Russia. It is the largest fine arts museum in Russia. World famous is the collection of west – European paintings covering a span of about 700 years, from the 13th to the 20th century. The Hermitage has sections devoted to the art if India, China, Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome, Ancient Egypt.
Tretyakov Gallery. Moscow. Russia. It takes its name from the founder Pavel Tretyakov, a Moscow merchant and art connoisseur. The Gallery reflects the whole history of Russian art, from the 11th century to the present day. It has a rich collection of old Russian icons.
Pushkin Fine Arts Museum. Moscow. Russia. It was open in 1912. Its collection has more than 560 000 works of paintings, sculpture, art photos. It must be ranked among the richest in the world in respect of Impressionist art.
Prado. Madrid. Spain. National Museum of painting and sculpture opened in 1819. It houses the richest collection of Spain, Italian, Holland artists. It contains more than 6000paintings in its collections.
Albertina Museum. Vienna. Austria. It has one of the largest world famous collections of graphic (more than 6 500 drawings and more than 1 million of printed graphic). The collection covers the period from the late gothic to modern time.
Metropolitan Museum. New York. The USA. It opened in 1872. The department of American applied art is the most famous. It contains works of modern West – European and American artists, from Ancient East and middle centuries.
Dresden Picture Gallery. German. It was founded in 1722. It houses 15 paintings of Rembrandt, Van Dayk, Titzian, Rafael. It has a rich collection of fine and applied art, collections of sculpture, miniatures.
Louvre. Paris. France. When it opened in 1793, there were 2 500 paintings in its collection. The most popular department in the museum is called Denon. You can admire the works of famous painters of the 19th century there. There are more than 6000 paintings in Louvre.
The museum of Solomon Gugeheim. New York. The USA. The museum houses the richest collection of modern art in the world. It contains works of art from the end of the 20th century to our days. There are pictures of Kandinskiy, Shagal, Gogen… It houses more than 6000 paintings.
