Scotland is the state and the part of the UK. Scotland is located in the Northern part of the island of Great Britain. On its southern border it borders with England.
Despite the fact that Scotland relates to the UK, it still represents a separate country. Along coast of the West Scotland there are Hebrides Islands, the largest of the archipelago, and in the North-East of Scotland region are Shetland and Orkney Islands. The highest point is mount Ben Nevis, located in the Grampian mountains
After several centuries of struggle with the Picts in 843, the Scotts managed here to crown their king Kenneth Mac-Alpin. In the eleventh century it was a social, political and religious revolution - the Scottish king Malcolm Canmore, who married the English Princess Margaret tried to introduce English traditions and language. At this time, the strong trade links have established between countries. By the eleventh century, it formed the Kingdom of Scotland, uniting the territories which were ruled by several powerful clans.
