The Food we eat
Everybody must eat. Bread and butter keep children warm.
Milk, eggs, cheese, meat help us to grow tall.
Strong children can run, jump and swim.
If you want to be healthy you must eat vegetables and fruit.
Children in different places eat different kinds of food.
The British diet has changed the last 20 years.
People are cutting down on fatty food, heavy puddings,
Cakes, coke. Pizza, pasta and baked potatoes are the most popular things
In English and American schools.
The best breakfast is tea or coffee, bread and butter, fruit.
Tea is natural product; it helps the body to work and contains no calories.
Children eat more convenience food (frozen products), fast food (hamburgers).
Smoking and drinking less is also recommended.

What is healthy eating?
It is a variety of foods so that every child gets the nutrients (such as protein, carbohydrate, fat, vitamins and minerals).
Every child needs for normal growth.
If every child regularly eats a wide variety of basic foods, he or she will be well-nourished.

What you eat is turned into energy by your body.

British food
British and American food had a bad reputation in Europe.
British lunch consists of roast beef, roast potatoes and pudding.
At breakfast time they eat cornflakes with milk, toast with marmalade and tea;
Sausages, eggs and bacon; cold meat and salad; fish, roast meat and vegetables.
English and American children like fish, chips, coke, sweets.
This food is very dangerous for children’s health.
Coke and sugar drinks have chemical additives.
As a result, many children have diabetes, cancer and tooth decay.
One English 9 – year boy wrote in his food diary:
“Before school: glass of blackcurrant squash, bottle of coke,
Packet of crisps, few biscuits.
At school: microwavable chips, pizza, 3 drinks of coke.”
There are more and more children are overweight and obese.

Boys and girls from poorer families can free dinners.
But they do not like them.

It is very important to be fit and healthy, and it is necessary to take care of your health.
Being fat, in fact, can cause real problems. It is harder for fat people to get a good job, or even to make friends.
Sleeping eight or nine hours, getting up early, regular meals, a healthy diet and going in for sports is really a good way to live.
