The Seven wonders of the world
Temple of Artemis at Ephesus It was a Greek temple dedicated to a god Artemis. The temple was built in 550BC. It took 120 years to build it. The Temple was very big( 115 meters long,180 meters wide)
Destruction In 356 BC Herostratus burnt the Temple. In 323 the Temple was restored. The Goths ransacked the Temple, than Ephesians rebuilt it again.
Great Pyramid of Giza The largest of 3 pyramids in Giza, Egypt. It was built as a tomb for Cheops (Khufu) in 2560 BC. The Great Pyramid consists of 2.3 million blocks. The Pyramid weighs 6.3 million tons. It is the only one « Wonder of the Ancient» World that isn't destroyed by the time.
Hanging Gardens of Babylon The gardens were built by the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar the second in 600BC. It was a present to Nebuchadnezzar's wife that contained exotic plants and animals.
Destruction After 1st century BC it was the earthquake and the Gardens of Babylon were destroyed
Statue of Zeus at Olympia It was cared by the classical sculptor Phidias in 432 BC in Olympia, Greece The statue was 12 meters high Zeus was made of gold and ivory Statue was damaged in the II century, then it was restarted. In 5th -6th centuries AD the Statue was destroyed
Mausoleum of Halicarnassus A tomb was built between 353 and 350BC at Halicarnassus for Mauslus, his wife and sister. It was 45 meters high. The original sculpture was destroyed by flood. A new structure was built and damaged by the earthquake (1494AD)
Colossus of Rhodes It was a statue of the Greek god Helios , it was built in the city of Rhodes on the Greek island of Rhodes between 292 and 280BC Before its destruction the Colossus of Rhodes was 30 meters high It was one of the tallest statues of the ancient world
Destruction In 226BC it was an earthquake and the Statue was destroyed
Lighthouse of Alexandria Also known as the Pharos of Alexandria, was a tower built between 280 and 247 BC on the island of Pharos at Alexandria It was 120(140) meters high, it was for many centuries among the tallest manmade structures on the Earth 1303-1480 AD Earthquake destroyed Lighthouse of Alexandria
