“Who is the founder of the Tatar poetry and music?” an answer is “Tukay and Saydash”, an answer to the question “Who is the founder of the Tatar painting art?” is sure to be “Baki Urmanche”. Isanbet Naki
Baki Urmanche was born on the 22nd of February in 1897, in the village of Koul’- Cherkene near the town of Buinsk, in the family of a local mullah, working as a parish teacher.
There is a secondary school in the middle of the village of Koul-Cherkene. On the wall of this school you can see a Memorial plaque. It says that our greatest painter, skilful sculptor was born and lived here. Every day pupils go to school, they read these words and I’m sure they are proud of Baki Urmanche. My native land is rich in famous people and one of them is B. Urmanche. He is very important to me, because his home is near my town and because I’m fond of painting.
Here you can see the picture “On the bank of the river Zai”. The scene takes place on the bank of the river. It is summer. It is hot. There are a lot of people, they are busy. The women are washing, the boys are going to bathe their horses. In the background of the picture there is a village of Koul – Cherkene. It is a very picturesque place of district of Buinsk. When I see the picture I imagine that as a boy B. Urmanche with his friends went to the Zai to swim and play. A. S. Ekzyupery’s words come to my mind: “ Where am I from? I am from my childhood!”
Renat Yenikeev (1937), composer. Aniya Tuisheva (1946), singer.

“Oh, native language, sacred tongue! My father’s and my mother’s tongue! How beautiful you are! The whole world From riches of my tongue I’ve learnt. И туган тел, и матур тел, Эткэм-энкэмнен теле! Доньяда куп нэрсэ белдем Син туган тел аркылы. “Туган тел» Г. Тукай.” G. Tukai, “Native tongue”. Translated by S. Lipkin. 1975
