Christmas
People in Britain celebrate Christmas on 25 December. They celebrate it as the day when Jesus Christ was born. It is often cold, wet and foggy at Christmas. Families decorate their homes and Christmas trees. It is a very busy time for families in England. They prepare presents, make Christmas cakes, and hang stockings near the fireplace. Children often write letters with their wishes. They believe that while they are sleeping, Father Christmas comes to visit. He is a kind old man in red clothes with a big sack of toys. He puts sweets and small toys in the children stockings.

Jingle Bells.
Refrain:
Jingle, bells! Jingle, bells!
Jingle all the way!
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh!
Dashing through the snow
In a one-horse open sleigh,
O’er the fields we go
Laughing all the way.
Bells on bob-tail ring,
Making spirits bright.
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight!
Refrain:
Jingle, bells! Jingle, bells!
Jingle all the way!
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh!

New Year’s Day
9 слайд
The 14th of February is called Valentine’s Day. It is a day of lovers. St.Valentine’s Day has roots in several legends. Cupid, the Roman god of love, is one of the earliest popular symbols of the day. Valentine was a Christian priest. On February 14 he was killed because he was a Christian.
On this day every man and every woman thinks about his or her sweetheart. On St. Valentine’s Day people send a special greeting card (Valentine) to those who they love. It’s a tradition not to give the name of the sender. Most people send “valentines “. But they don’t sign them. They write, “I love you, darling” or “Will you be my Valentine? “Some people buy presents for their sweethearts or give them red roses, a symbol of love.
