The political system of the United States is comprised of two primary parties that compete for power and for political positions of influence. These parties are the Democratic Party and the Republican Party.
The Democratic National Convention The Democratic Party was founded by Thomas Jefferson in 1792 as a means to fight for the Bill of Rights and thwart the Federalist Party. It is based on the fundamental belief that someone’s economic status or social background should not automatically grant them a position of rule. A government should be based on characteristics that everyone possesses, such as compassion and intelligence. The Democrat Party has promoted progressive politics throughout history.
The Republican Party was founded in 1854 by a group of individuals who opposed slavery. Republicans support the use of conservative politics, in which they argue that all policies should be based on Christian values and ideals. Republicans argue against progressive politics that would allow woman to terminate fetuses, allow same sex marriage and provide federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.
The American Flag has three names: Old Glory, Stars and Stripes and the Star-Spangled Banner. It consists of 13 stripes and 50 stars. The flag has three colours and represents freedom and justice in the United States.
Liberty Bell. The Liberty Bell was cast in England in 1752 for the Pennsylvania Statehouse (now Independence Hall). Now it is in the Independence Hall of Philadelphia.
