"Examining grandparents, grandchildren learn,
That is, studying ancestors we learn ourselves".
V. O. Klyuchevsky
Among the human senses, one of the kindest is the feeling of love to the family, its past and roots. The knowledge of the roots, the knowledge of the past of the family each person needs. When we begin to understand it, we realize the importance of studying the history of our country.
The study of genealogy is an important component in the formation of the individuality of any citizen and patriot of Russia with his inherent values, attitudes, interests, motives of activity and behavior.
Many people consider it as a sacred duty to know their ancestry at least to the fifth generation. So in China before the Eastern New Year the family gathers at the holiday table and remembers ancestors up to the fifth generation. The peoples of Gorny Altai know their genealogy to the seventh generation. The Buryats are always with great reverence for their ancestors. Traditionally every Buryat should know their ancestors to the seventh generation, but some know their ancestry to the twentieth. Parentage is a list of generations of one family, establishing the origin and degree of relationship.
Today the problem of studying family history is particularly relevant. Modern families lose connection between generations, don’t contact with not only far but also close relatives. The study of genealogy contributes to a more intimate communion of family members, develops an interest to the history of the family, contributes to the strengthening of the spiritual values of the family, raises the cultural level.
In my ancestry there are no people that decided the fate of Russia. But among them there were worthy, respectable people. And it is important for me to preserve the good remembrance about them for our future generations.
The relevance of my work I see in the fact that through the history of our ancestry we can comprehend the history and modernity. Spontaneously it happens in every family through stories and live communication, but oral stories and traditions are short-lived, many of them are lost over time, so special efforts are needed that the history of the family has not disappeared completely.
The aim of the work is to know my ancestry, to preserve the most valuable material about the history of the family for future generations.
The tasks are:
to learn about the concepts of “ancestry”, “genealogy”, “family tree”;
to gather information about my relatives from people of different generations,
to master the program “My Heritage Family Tree” and make up a family tree of my family.
The object of my work is my family.
The subject is my ancestry.
The hypothesis is that a study of my ancestry will help me to establish a stronger connection with my family.
In the course of my project I used such research methods as:
• theoretical (the analysis of literary sources, analysis of documentary sources, synthesis);
• sociological (the survey and interviews with my relatives).
Chapter 1. The theoretical part.
1.1. The concept of " ancestry ", "genealogy", "family tree".
Ancestry is a genealogy, a list of generations of one family, establishing the origin and the degree of kinship. From the word "kin" new words are formed: relatives, birthplace, spring, bearing, a poor harvest, harvest, people, parents, the genealogy register, generic, the founder of the ancestry. Almost every word is near and dear to our hearts and means the beginning of all living things on the earth: the family, the Fatherland, the string, the sea.
The relationship can be: blood – by the common ancestor; peculiar (matchmaking) – by marital alliances; spiritual (godparents, godfathers) – by the perception of the font.
Types of ancestries are: family tree, genealogy list, genealogy book, genealogy table.
The ancestry is built in descending order (from ancestors to descendants) or ascending (from the son to the father, grandfather, etc.)
In very ancient times genealogy was recorded in the form of a tree.
Genealogy is a historical discipline that emerged in 17-18th century, it studies the origins, history and kinship of the families.
Genealogy as a knowledge of relationship appeared with human society. The rise of genealogy in Europe coincides with the period of development of feudalism. In Russia genealogical lists appeared at the end of the 15 century. In the sixteenth century the first genealogical books appeared. Under Peter I the Geroldmejstersky office was created. In the 18-20 centuries works on genealogy of Pheophan Prokopovich, M.M.Shcherbakov, T.A.Knyazev, M.G.Spiridov, P.V.Dolgorukov, Yuri Voeikov, L.M.Savelov were published.
In Western Europe people used to paint their genealogical trees: men having posterity painted in a yellow backdrop, not having children - on red, married women - in purple, the girls - in blue. All living people were painted on a green backdrop, but men were darker and women were lighter. Men's names were written in the rectangles or rhombuses, women's names were written in the circles or ovals. But it was not a rule; people did it rarely in Russia.
Family tree is a representation of family ties in the form of a diagram resembling a tree, branches and leaves of which is the family.
A family tree can be ascending and descending.
In ascending family tree the research object is the person, the ancestors of which are gathering information about. With this person we start, and then we go on ascending steps or knees - to father, grandfather, great-grandfather, etc. It is the original type of genealogy, when the researcher has little information, when he consistently goes from the known to the unknown.
In descending family tree we start with the most distant ancestors and gradually go to his descendants. That genealogy allows you to visualize the overall picture of the life and work of your ancestors, from the past to the present day.
Constructing my ancestry I have chosen ascending family tree.
Chapter 2. A practical part.
2.1. Generations of my family.
2.1.1. The first generation.
The first generation of my family tree is me, Ponomarev Alexander, born July 13, 1999 and my younger sister Maria Ponomareva, born on October 14, 2011.
I and my sister were born in Pyshma, but we live in the village of Trifonovo. When I was a child, I attended kindergarten in Trifonovo, and now my sister goes there. In 1-5 classes I studied at school in Trifonovo. At the moment I am a student of Pyshma’s secondary school. Since early age I was actively involved in sports. I am fond of football, skiing, athletics. I also regularly take part in various school, district, and international competitions and contests.
2.1.2. The second generation.
The second generation of my family tree is my parents: mother - Ponomareva (maiden name Ulanova) Natalia and father – Ponomarev Sergey.
In the years when my parents were young there was a flowering in science, information technology, culture, and a continued exploration of outer space. Perhaps all this influenced the fact that my parents have always taken a proactive stance, tried to learn new things.
My dad was born February 19, 1977 in the village of Trifonovo, and the mother February 22, 1977 in the village of Ustyanka. In childhood they were attending one kindergarten and one school, in Trifonovo. My mother studied well at school, and also had the time to visit various clubs and sections: chorus, dances, volleyball and basketball. My dad was crazy about sports and cars since childhood. Along with his parents, he participated in many competitions. Every year in summer he worked as the assistant to the combine operator and a driver. After finishing school in 1994, the mother went to the Ekaterinburg pedagogical College and graduated from it in 1998, and then she has got the profession of a speech therapist at the Urals State pedagogical University in 2010. My dad graduated from the Urals State pedagogical University in 1994 and has got the specialty of "teacher of physical education". In 1999 my parents began to work at school in Trifonovo as teachers: my mother began to teach English and my father - physical culture. In 2001 my father became the principal of school in Trifonovo.
At the moment my mother continues to teach English in Pyshma’s secondary school, and my dad is a chief of a small company.
2.1.3. The third generation.
The third generation of my family tree is my grandparents.
Childhood of my grandparents coincided with the development of scientific and technological progress. For example, Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first person flew into space. It was the period when the agriculture and light industry developed rapidly, cities and villages built fast, the people living in the village were given passports, and the standard of living of the population has improved. My grandparents like all people have always faithfully worked to be useful for the country and an example for their children.
My mother's parents: Ulanov Vasily Mikhaylovich and Ulanova (maiden name - Ivacheva) Galina Vyacheslavovna.
Ulanov Vasily Mikhailovich was born 2 November 1953 in the village of Kamenyovka in Pyshminsky district (now the village is no longer on the map). He was the second child in the family after his older brother Alexander. His mother died when grandpa was 6 years old. In 1960 Vasily Mikhailovich went to the primary school of the village Ustyanka. Then he was sent to an orphanage in the Turinsky district, and then in Pervouralsk. He graduated from the Kamyshlov vocational school as a driver. He served in the Soviet Army in the Far East in the town of Skovorodino in the border troops. In 1976 Ulanov Vasily Mikhailovich married Ivacheva Galina Vyacheslavovna. My grandfather is a pensioner now.
His wife, Ulanova Galina Vyacheslavovna, was born on 31 May 1955 in the village of Ustyanka in Pyshminsky district. She was not the only child in the family. My grandmother had 2 sisters – Lyudmila and Lyubov. In 1962 Galina Vyacheslavovna went to primary school in Ustyanka, and then she studied in Pyshma’s school. When studying she has graduated from the courses of seamstresses, so she always sewed things for my family herself. Grandma worked as a postman, assistant of a veterinarian, in recent years she was a housewife. On the personal farm of my grandparents there were 3 cows, 3 calves, 15-20 sheep, 5-10 pigs, and a lot of chickens. My grandmother baked delicious pies and cakes, was fond of floriculture. In 1977 in the family of Ulanovs the eldest daughter Natalia was born, and in 1985 a son Dmitry was born. At the moment uncle Dima lives in the village of Trifonovo, and works as an electrician at the railway station in Oschepkovo. Unfortunately, my grandmother Galina is no longer alive, she died from an incurable disease in 2001.
My father's parents: Ponomarev Vasily Mikhaylovich and Ponomareva (maiden name - Ivacheva) Tatyana Vladimirovna.
Ponomarev Vasily Mikhailovich was born 24 February 1956 in the village of Zarechnaya in Pyshminsky district. After finishing school in the village of Pecherkino he studied as the projectionist, and in 1974 he went to serve into the Soviet Army. Since 1976 Vasily Mikhailovich was the driver, and from 1995 to 2006 he was the head of the garage in Trifonovo, and from 2006 to 2010 he worked as a technical director. From 2011 to 2016 my granddad worked as a controller at a service station in Pyshma. At the moment he is a pensioner.
My grandmother, Ponomareva Tatyana Vladimirovna, was born on 17 September 1959 in the village of Medvedeva in Pyshminsky district. In 1966 she went to school, and after school she went to the Sverdlovsk College of physical education. From 1982 to 2011she worked at school in Trifonovo, and from 2011 to 2014 in Pyshma’s school as a teacher of physical culture. Now she works as an instructor of physical culture in kindergarten in Trifonovo. Since her school time and until today Tatyana Vladimirovna is involved in sports, participating in competitions of district, regional, national and even international level. Her favorite sports are running and skiing. 10 years ago she was fascinated by marathons, and at the moment she has already run 10 semi-marathons and 11 marathons in Omsk, Moscow and in Finland, Iceland, France, Spain, Italy. In 1976, Vasily and Tatyana got married. In 1977 their first child Sergey was born, and in 1979 the second son Mikhail was born, who also studied at school in Trifonovo. Mikhail graduated from the Urals State pedagogical University, he is a professional runner and has the title "master of sports of athletics". After completing his professional career Mikhail became interested in runs and marathons, traveled all over Europe and was the winner of the run in Germany in 2014. Now he lives and works in the village of Lenskoye in Turinsk district as a teacher of physical culture.
2.1.4. The fourth generation.
The fourth generation – my great-grandparents - the generation of winners, participants of the Great Patriotic War and generation of war workers. They had a lot of sufferings and experiences in their life. They had to rebuild the country after the war. All my great-grandparents grew up and lived in the villages, so they knew how hard the work of an ordinary peasant was.
In the maternal line I have 2 great-grandmothers and 2 great-grandfathers:
• Tamara (1927-2007)
• Vyacheslav (1930-1965)
• Natalya (1920-1959)
• Michael (unknown)
There is also some information about cousins of my great-grandmothers and great-grandfathers in the maternal line:
• Fedosey (1910-1960)
• Dmitry (1914-1985)
• Nikolay (1924-1974)
• Tatyana (1918-1988)
• Appolinaria (1933-2014)
My great-grandmother Ivacheva Tamara Vasilievna was born on 6 November 1927 in the village of Ustyanka in Pyshminsky district where she lived most of her life.
She met the Great Patriotic War when she was a 13 years-old girl. Three elder brothers of Tamara Vasilyevna – Fedosey, Dmitry and Nikolay - went to the front. Dmitry was a partisan in Leningrad and Pskov regions, Fedosey was in the Navy, and Nikolay was in infantry. So the whole heavy rural labor fell to her share. First she helped the adults to work in the field, on the farm, caring for the animals.
When great-grandmother was 15 years old, she was sent on logging on the North of the region, where teenagers chopped wood doing heavy men’s work. Then, when Tamara Vasilievna was about 16 years old, she was sent to Sverdlovsk plant named after Kalinin, evacuated from the Western borders of the country. At the factory she worked until the end of the war.
After the war, Tamara Vasilyevna returned to her native village, was a foreman on a cattle farm. For her work great-grandma was awarded numerous diplomas and medals such as "Shock worker of the five-year plan", "Veteran of labor", "For valiant labor", "50 years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War", "60 years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War".
My great-grandfather Ivachev Vyacheslav Nikolaevich was born on 24 September 1930 in the village of Ustyanka. During the war he worked on the farm, helped the adults. After the war, having served in the army, he worked on a farm. He died at the age of 34 after an accident.
Ulanova Natalia Dmitrievna was born 31 August 1920, in the village of Riga in Pyshminsky district (now the village is no longer on the map), then she lived and studied in the village of Ustyanka. She worked on the farm. In 1959 she died of illness.
Information about my great-grandfather Slezkin Mikhail Nikiforovich is not available since he lived apart, he had another family, and my grandfather Vasily didn't communicate with him. Although at the moment my granddad has good relations with his sisters in his father's line who live in Pyshma and Katarach.
In my father's line I have 2 great-grandmothers and 2 great-grandfathers:
• Pelagea (1913-1991)
• Mikhail (1909-1956)
• Anna (1926-2008)
• Vladimir (1939)
Pelagea Ivanovna Ponomareva was born and lived in the village of Zarechnaya in Pyshminsky district. She had four children – Margaret, Alexander, Tatyana and Vasily (my grandfather). All her life she worked on a cattle farm. She died in 1991.
My great-grandfather Ustyantsev Michael Semyonovich was born in 1909 and worked on the farm. I have no information about him, as he died when my grandfather was not 1 year yet.
The father of my grandmother Tatyana - Spiridonov Vladimir Grigorevich was born on 29 January 1939. After serving in the army, Vladimir studied at the College in Turinsk and has got a specialty of the driver. The biggest part of his life he lived in Trifonovo and worked as a driver. Vladimir Grigorevich is fond of sports, especially skiing, he was the participant of many competitions. He is the retired now and lives in the town of Verkhnyaya Pyshma.
Tretyakova Anna Nikolaevna was born on 25 November 1926 in the village of Medvedeva in Pyshminsky district. She spent all her life in Trifonovo. Anna Nikolaevna worked at the animal farm, later in a sewing workshop. The great-grandmother had two daughters – Tamara and Tatyana (my grandmother). My great-grandmother was religious: she attended all church services, kept the fasts; there were a lot of icons and religious books in her house. She loved and knew how to sew, so we always had things sewn by her (towels, potholders, napkins, curtains). Anna Nikolaevna died in 2008 because of illness.
2.1.5. The fifth and the sixth generation.
The fifth generation of my ancestors is those people who witnessed the Civil war, the overthrow of Imperial power and the Great October revolution. Unfortunately, I could not find too much information about them.
In the maternal line I have found information about 2 great-great-grandmothers and 2 great-great-grandfathers:
• Marya Ivanovna (1896-1976)
• Vasily Ananyevich (unknown)
• Elena Appadistovna (1884-1965)
• Dmitry Yakovlevich (1888-1974)
Marya Ivanovna was born on 4 August 1896 in the village of Ustyanka where she lived all her life. She and Vasily Ananyevich had 13 children but only four survived – Fedosey, Dmitry, Tamara and Nikolay. She worked on the farm. In 1938 Vasily Ananyevich was taken away by the military and nobody saw him alive. Now there is the information that he was repressed.
My great-great-grandmother in my mother's line Elena Appadistovna was born in 1894. She married Ulanov Dmitry Yakovlevich (08.11.1888), and they had three children: Tatyana, Natalya and Appolinaria. They lived in the village of Pecherkino, later in the village of Ustyanka. They worked in the collective farm: Dmitry Yakovlevich was a groom; Elena Appadistovna worked in a field team.
In my father's line I found information about 2 great-great-grandmothers and a great-great-grandfather:
• Stepanida (1903-1991)
• Fedosya (1897-1992)
• Nikolay (died in 1974)
Stepanida Lavrentyevna is the grandmother of my grandmother Tatyana Vladimirovna. She lived in the village of Medvedeva. Stepanida Lavrentyevna married Ivachev Nicholas Grigoryevich, and they had two daughters – Anna (my great-grandmother) and Valentina. Stepanida Lavrentyevna died in 1991. Stepanida had the elder sister Fedosya, who became blind at an early age. Despite the lack of sight, she could wash, cook, clean the house, and do other work. More than 15 years Fedosya has lived in the family of my grandmother Tatyana Vladimirovna, helped her to raise children.
From the ancestors of the sixth generation I found information only about the parents of Stepanida and Fedosya – Lavrenty and Evdokya.
2.2. Synthesis of information and creation of a family tree.
I have written all the information in the program "My Heritage Family Tree", which helped me to build my ascending family tree.
"My Heritage Family Tree" is a free program with the option of purchasing a paid premium accounts that extend the capabilities of users. The program developed by the Israeli company My Heritage. This program allows you to build a schedule from any family member, any generation. You can also find places of birth of all family members by using maps. At this moment I have 218 persons in the list of my ancestry. (Appendix 2)
In the current days we often do not think about where we come from, what our ancestry is. And our memory hardly knows more than a generation or two ago. But a lot of things that we can be proud of today were formed over many decades and even centuries. Our ancestors as we were born, studied, worked, and fought, raised children and grandchildren. Surely many of them had serious achievements, which are forgotten. The most offensive is that fact that we can forget about these things.
With the help of my parents, grandmothers, grandfathers and other relatives I as far as possible tried to restore the ancestry of my family. As a result, I recreated a family tree of my family. In total there are over 200 persons. Nowadays my grandmother in my mother's line writes a book of her memories. I hope that this book will help us to remember and learn more about our ancestors.
It is interesting and important for each person to know his ancestry. Love for family, loyalty to family traditions, the memory of those who is no longer with us, fills our lives with deep meaning. After all, we were born thanks to the older generation. We learn from them all that is good: kindness, courage, honesty, mutual assistance. Respect for elders, care about each other make our lives happier.
This work can be used as local history material at History lessons as well as for family using.
