Introduction

         We live in the settlement of Pamyat  Parizhskoy Kommuny that stands on the left bank of  the Volga river. It is not far from the town of Bor.

         It was in 1864 when a group of people chose a place near the river for their living. First it was a small village. Today it is a modern settlement with the population of 5 thousand people.

         Our native place is famous for its unique geographical position and beautiful nature. Because of this people enjoy living in the settlement. But on the other hand they have a problem of getting a job there. There are some enterprises and establishments in the settlement. (Appendix № 2) But only smaller part of the population work there. As for the most people they have to look out for a season job in travel companies . (Appendix № 3) They work as sailors, cooks, stewards, … on tourist  ships during summer navigations.(Appendix №4). People don`t live in the settlement for four or five months   because of their season job on ships. And in winter they are out of work and short of money. They wish they had a job in their native place. (Appendix №5 ,6)

         Speaking about problems of getting a job one more problem should be mentioned. Those parents who work on ships have to leave their children with their grandparents, relatives, neighbours. In some cases teenagers live without adults for a long period of time .They can easily get into trouble. And it will be very difficult for youth teenagers to cope with their problems without their parents.

         No doubt, parents are responsible for their children and they must look after them. But adults have to leave their children because their work on a ship is the only way for them to earn money for living.

         It is necessary to add that 15-17 year – old people have too much free time on summer holidays. To their point of view they are old enough to work.83% of the teenagers would like to have a job. (Appendix № 7, 8)

         And what about opportunities of getting a part- time job for settlement`s youth in summer?

         We decided to arrange a meeting with the head of the organ of the local authority to get information about tomorrow`s part-time prospects for teenagers on summer holidays. We were told that only such job as tidying the territory would be offered. As for the owners of the bakery, cafes, shops they will not be able to offer teenagers any kind of jobs in summer. So, young boys and girls want to have a part-time job but they have no opportunities to get it.                                                                                                                     

         Are there any ways of solving these problems? To our mind it should be a new business.

So, our group decided to find out what kind of business should be started in our place.

Hypothesis

          A new kind of business will be profitable for businessmen and will have positive effects on the development of our settlement.

The fundamental question

          Will the situation with getting a job change partly or completely in case of starting a new business in our place?

Problem questions

-        What kind of business can be started in our settlement?

-        What kind of part-time jobs can teenagers do?

-        What kinds of entertainment can be offered to holidaymakers

The aim of the project

         Find out ways of solving the problem of getting a job in our settlement.

2. Arguments for starting tourist business in the settlement                                                                                                                       We have mentioned above that there are some enterprises and establishments in our place where people work. However, there is a problem of getting a job there.

To our mind the problem of getting a job in our settlement cannot be solved without starting a new kind of business there.

Discussing this problem it was impossible not to take into account its unique geographical position, beautiful nature and fresh air.

The settlement is situated on the left bank of the Volga river. Sand beaches are favourite places for those who are keen on sunbathing. Our native place is surrounded by a great forest. In summer there are a lot of people who are fond of picking up berries and mushrooms .It has beautiful lakes full of fish.

Those who are fond of eating fresh vegetables and fruit can buy them at our local market. Cow`s milk is sold there too.                                                   So, there will be nothing more exciting than spending summer holidays or weekends in “Paris” which stands on the left bank of the Volga. You may relax and have wonderful time there.

More than that, there will be no problems with shortage of personnel for employers. Why? According to the results of interviewing a lot of in habitants would like to get a job connected with tourism in our home area. Besides, there will be no need to retrain people who will be employed as they, by working on tourist ships, have already got professional skills which will be required later. (Appendix № 5, 6)                                              Taking into account these facts we came to the conclusion that tourist business should be started in our native place. And tourist can be looked upon as one of the ways to solve problems with getting a job in our area.

2.               Leasing  in  tourism

It is known that tourist ships on which the inhabitants of our settlements work are lease objects. The owner of the ships is the Volga shipping company. (Appendix № 9)

And the lessee of these ships is the closed joint-stock company “Vodokhod” which organizes river cruises for foreign tourists. Their package holidays are popular among tourists from France, Germany, Italy, Great Britain. It should be mentioned that people working on these ships are paid a lot.

Leasing is a part of a general tourist business. According to the official figures leasing is very popular nowadays and the objects being leased increase in number. Objects of leasing may be houses, cottages, hotels, bungalows, caravans, plots of land.

To our mind the lease of the objects of tourism can be looked upon as one the ways to break into a tourist market.

         What can be an object of leasing in our case? We think that it will be a good idea to use a small river boat for short river trips and a plot of land on the bank of the river. (Appendix№10, 12)

3.   Ways of upgrading lease objects status.

We think that some things should be done to upgrade the existing status of a river boat.

To our mind it will be very good to build a café or a restaurant there. (Appendix № 11)  Holydaymakes can be offered tasty dishes which will be prepared by highly-qualified cooks who have got their professional skills working or tourist ships.

No doubts, that  such dishes of  Russian cuisine as okroshka, ukha, shchi ,pancake with caviar  and different kinds of salads will be popular among holidaymakes.

Those teenagers who want to have a part-time job can wash up dishes, work as waitresses and waiters there.

As for the plot of land on the bank of the river it can be improved by installing there sunumbrellers.

It will be a good idea to sell juice, mineral water,  icecream  on  the beach. (Appendix№ 12). This job can be done by teens. Besides, they can be offered such job as tidying the beach.

5. Places which are worth seeing.

         Our settlement is famous for its museum which contains a lot of slogans, pictures, documents, albums, photos which depict the history of our native place. (Appendix № 13 ,14)

Being the members of the historical club we are allowed to organise excursions to the museum for the pupils of our secondary school. Besides, we involve our classmates and other pupils in taking part in quizzes s devoted to the history of our native place .  We have already got skills in organasation of excurcions. So,  we will be able to organize them for holidaymakers .We wish we worked as guides.  What other places are there which are worth seeing?

In our settlement there are some wooden houses decorated with beautiful ornaments. (Appendix № 15, 16).  The owners of the houses are friendly and hospitable. They will be glad to see tourists in their houses and show them unique old things, for example, embroiderings, wooden furniture, baskets made of birch bark .Holidaymakers can see the Russian stove which still exists in their houses and provides for many living necessities. (Appendix № 17, 18)

6. Performers of  the  project

Our project is aimed to those who want to start their own business in tourism. So, the performers of our project can be institutional and small investors who will be future employers in our area.

         It was mentioned above that most of the inhabitants who work on tourist ships would like to get the same job in the home area. (Appendix № 6). They can work on river boats as sailors, cooks, stewards, waitresses, navigators, mechanics.

         As for the result of the survey 15-17 year- old teenagers it shows that most of them want to have a part-time job during summer holidays (Appendix № 7  ,8). They can do such kinds of jobs as cleaning the territory, washing the dishes, selling ice-cream. They also can work as sailors, waiters, waitresses.

         So, the performers of the project can be investors, inhabitants of the settlement who work on ships, 15-17 year-old teenagers.

Conclusion

         We hope that institutional and small investors will show interest in our project.

         We would like our native place to become a tourist area. A lot of people will have an opportunity to spend their summer holidays or weekends in the countryside enjoying fresh air and picturesque landscape.

         Besides, those people who work on tourist ships can get a job in their home area. There will be no need for them to leave their children with relatives and even without adults. It is very important for teenagers to know that they are cared for their parents and they will help young boys and girls to cope with their problems.

         There will be one more positive point in starting tourist business in our native place. Boys and girls of 15-17 year-old will have an opportunity to get a part-time job and earn their own money to buy things they want. It will be very useful for them to get practical experience. Besides, they will not waste time on trifles.

More than that, if our settlement becomes a tourist area, it will have positive effect on living conditions in our native place and income of the population will grow.

Possible ways out

         The government supports financially those people who want to start their own business. Besides, starting businessmen can get low-interest rate loan.

         Our area is a wonderful place not only for having a rest in summer. It is also a perfect place for fishing and hunting in autumn, winter and spring. To our mind it is a good idea to build small houses for fishers and hunters or to use them as lease objects. It would be useful to place television commercials to attract those who are fond of fishing and hunting.
