Magic Love

Love is like magic

And it will always be.

For love still remains

Life's sweet mystery!

Love works in ways

That are wondrous and strange

And there's nothing in life

That love cannot change!

Love can transform

The most commonplace

Into beauty and splendour

And sweetness and grace

Love is unselfish,

Understanding and kind,

For it sees with its heart

And not with its mind!

Love is the answer

That everyone seeks....

Love is the language,

That every heart speaks.

Love can't be bought,

It is priceless and free,

Love, like pure magic,

Is life's sweet mystery

Hello! Welcome to our party! Today we’ll speak about the most important concepts we have in our life - human relationships. Love, family, friendship have always been the bases of people’s existence and the source of inspiration for poets, artists and musicians in different countries. We often say that we need a common language to promote mutual understanding between nations. We know one. It is English. But there is one more that is even better since every heart is able to speak it without words. It is love.

People all over the world celebrate the holiday of love and friendship in many different ways, observing different customs and traditions. In Europe and America the Catholics, call it St Valentine’s Day and celebrate it on the 14th of February. Russian people, the Orthodox believers, have a similar holiday called Family Day, celebrated on the 8th of July.

The 8th of July 2008 was a 780 year old Orthodox holiday honouring Saints Peter and Fevronia, who were canonized in 1547. Our students will tell you about them in details. Listen attentively and get ready to answer the questions.

2) Presentation about Peter and Fevronia of Murom. Questions on the presentation.

3) Students divide into two teams, welcome each other and the jury.

4) The 1st contest “Love is …”

We’ve mentioned the word “love” many times but what is it in your opinion? Take turns to explain what love is (give definitions or compare it to something). The last team to speak wins.

5) The 2nd contest “Proverbs and sayings about love”

You’ve just expressed what you think about love. And here is people’s wisdom put in proverbs but the words in them are jumbled up, put them in the correct order to make a proverb about love and translate them into Russian.

6) Reciting poems.

Love is really one of the greatest feelings we can experience. True love is very rare and beautiful so a lot of poets dedicated their creations to this wonderful feeling. Let’s listen to them.

7) Singing love songs.

8) The 3d contest “Pay a compliment”.

It’s an old tradition to say pleasant things to each other on this day. The 3d contest is connected with paying compliments and the task for each pair is as follows: pay a compliment to your partner and step towards him or her, we’ll see how close you will be able to come (the closer the better). The pair who will be able to meet and hold each other’s hand wins.

9) Voicing the film.

A lot of films and cartoons are focused on the relationships between people, sometimes there are very touching love moments, sometimes they are sad, but of course there are many happy and even funny ones. Now each team gets two fragments of films without any sound and the task is to voice the fragment. Use your imagination, creativity and knowledge to do this task.

10) Valentine rhymes.

Of course, we cannot do without Valentine cards today. Now you’ll get a piece of paper with some rhyming words and you’ll have to think of some short poem to put on your Valentine card.

11) Guessing the crossword.

Guess the words down/across and spell it.

12) Guessing the tune.

1. Toni Braxton. “Unbreak my heart”

2. Linkin Park “Valentine’s Day”

3. The Rasmus “Sail away”

4. Avril Lavigne “Girlfriend”

5. Elton John “Can you feel the love tonight”

6. John Newman “Love me again”

7. Scorpions “Still loving you”

8. Nightwish “I wish I had your angel”

9. Michael Jackson “You are not alone”

10. Nickelback “Far away”
