Рассказ по теме.

MY FAVOURITE BOOK CHARACTER

I think that book characters which people like or dislike express people's ideas of what is good or what is bad. People associate themselves with characters and acquire their philosophy and behavior. That's why it is important for children to read the right kind of books. If a person behaves honestly, bravely and nobly, it means that in his childhood he read the correct kind of books. Therefore I think that one's favourite book character is the model of a person one wants to be.

As for me personally, my favourite book character is Frodo Baggings, a hobbit from Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. There are many reasons for that.

On the one hand, Frodo has always been a pleasant person - active, very curious for a hobbit, polite, energetic and soft-hearted. But when it appeared that the ring he got from his uncle Bilbo was a magic ring of power, he did what he must, though he was afraid and understood he could die. He just put the common benefit above his suffers. This is the position which many real heroes had, beginning with Ilya Muromets, who went out into the world to help people and to free Russia from enemies, and finishing with Men in Black who spend their lives solving inter-civilization problems or Neo, who wants to free all people from their sleep in glass tombs.

On the other hand his character develops during the dangerous trip. He shows the traits of character he seemed not to have. He learnt to forgive, to be tolerant. That is difficult. As a noble man, Frodo understands that fate is powerful and can break almost anybody. He also understands how important it is not to turn off the straight road. Frodo does everything he can and even above it to complete his mission. In the end of his difficult and dangerous journey he more and more falls under the power of the ring, but he finds enough force to go on. When Sam, his friend and companion says they don't have water and food for the way back, he replies that there will be no way back. He agrees with his death if it must take place to save the Shire and people from the terrible Lord of the Rings.

And here you come to the most tragic episode in his life. When he at last comes to the only place where he can complete his mission and destroy the terrible ring, the Fire Mountain, the Ring at last takes power over Frodo. Frodo puts the ring on his finger. He doesn’t want to throw the ring into the fire. Here Gollum appears and bites off Frodo’s finger with the ring and falls into the fire. The world is saved.

Беседа.

Pupil: I have heard many times that most grown-ups think schoolchildren should wear a uniform. Do you share this opinion?

Tester: Yes, I do. I think , school uniform organizes children, helps them switch from play to work.

Pupil: It is of course an important reason. That's why nowadays some schools have uniforms. But I think that being in the school building is good enough to switch from play to work. But children like to play anyway, whether they have a uniform on or not. Isn't it in their nature?

Tester: That's right. And children also have difficulties with switching from play to work. Uniforms can help them. It should as well be mentioned that children often discuss clothes at lessons. If they wear a uniform, they will not have the subject to discuss - all children will wear the same clothes.

Pupil: I'm afraid I can't agree with you. Children can discuss clothes they wore yesterday. They can discuss the shoes they are wearing, school bags, and so on. Usual children wore what was sold in shops, but children of very important people wore good, fashionable clothes like silk dresses. Do you think such clothes were not discussed?

Tester: They probably were. But at school all children were equal in clothes, and they couldn't boast or bully other children for wearing less expensive uniforms.

Pupil: It would be good if it were true. But from my granny I know that in Soviet times some children had a better uniform, made from better fabric and made to measure. Even children who had foreign pencils, erasers and pens were in the focus of attention. So children were not equal at school. What would you answer to this?

Tester: Well... But if you wear a uniform, you won't dirty your regular clothes.

Pupil: I can agree with this, but some extent. The reason is that uniforms were rather expensive, so every child usually had one uniform and wore it during a term, which is about two months, without washing. Do you think it was good?

Tester: No, it wasn't. But nowadays many schools have uniforms like in European countries. They don't require children wear the same clothes for a term. They only state what kind of clothes children should wear, like a pair of black trousers, a black jacket and a white shirt or blouse. So children enjoy the benefits of a uniform and can change clothes every day. Isn't it clever?

Pupil: Not very, to my mind. You see the problem is that in Russia climate is different from European countries. In England the summer as warm as the Russian summer, but winters are much milder, English children often have a green Christmas - a Christmas without snow. In Russia 30 degrees below zero is normal for the winter. Can children wear the same kind of clothes in hot summer and in cold winter?

Tester: But they can put on coats and caps!

Pupil: Of course they can. But it is so hot in the school building in April, May and September, but so cold in December, January and February!
