Reading
1)So, one of them is
Florence Nightingale. We shall read the text and find out more about her life.
Please, pay attention to the word formation task.
(Дети читают по
очереди вслух, сразу делают словообразование.)
2)Now we’ll go through
the derivatives of the words again. What other parts of speech can you form out
of these words? (На экране
правильные
варианты
слов.)
3)Well, Florence
Nightingale was a remarkable woman.
- Can you tell where and
when she was born?
- She didn’t want a
meaningless life, did she? Why?
- What war broke out in
1854?
- Can you prove that
conditions in the army hospitals were appalling?
- Why was Florence
Nightingale known as The Lady With The Lamp?
- What can you tell about
her life after the war?
Thank you for the
answers.
IV.
Speaking
(in pairs)
Everything that we have
just read happened long time ago. But are there people nowadays that make a
difference to other people’s lives? In pairs, look through the newspaper
articles, discuss them and be ready to present the information to the class.
V.
Speaking
(in groups)
All in all, we see that
there are a number of ways of lending a helping hand. What kind of volunteering
would you be able to do? In groups, compare and contrast the photographs on the
screen, after a while one student from each group will present the description.
The plan will help you.
-
Give
a brief description of the photos (what is happening, location);
-
Say
what the pictures have in common;
-
Say
in what way the pictures are different;
-
Say
what type of volunteering would you choose;
-
Explain
why.
Thank you, dear friend!
Good job!
VI.
Homework
1) Write
an essay “It is the government that is responsible for helping people in need”
(для детей,
которые
сдают
ЕГЭ)
2) Speak
about a person in our country who has helped to improve people’s lives
VII.
The
end of the lesson
1) At
the beginning of the lesson you came up with words that refer to charity. Let
us summarize today’s issue and think of about those people we were talking
about.
e.g.
In my opinion, Florence Nightingale was an active person because she worked
around the clock looking after the soldiers.
2)
As the Englishmen say, charity begins at home. We can also do our bit to make a
difference. It’s not difficult. Just send a message on this short phone number
and type in the sum of money you want to donate. This way you will help a
person who really needs your hand and together with other people all over the
world you’ll make his world wonderful. (Звучит
песня
Louis
Armstrong “What a wonderful world”)
Thank
you for the lesson. It was such a delight to be with you today.
