Theme of the lesson: The University of Oxford

AIMS: to talk with pupils about  the most famous university of the world.

a) Educational purpose: According to the lesson’s educational purpose improve pupils’ personal qualities like behavior, education etc. to improve pupils’ ideal-political knowledge, to form their developing skills and abilities.

b) Upbringing purpose: According to the lesson’s educational purpose improve pupils’ knowledge, experience. Teach pupils new grammar rules, new words, improve their listening, reading, oral speech and writing skills.

c) Developing purpose: According to the lesson’s educational purpose develop pupils’ personal skills, English learning, motivational skills, develop pupils’ self educational skills, analyzing and systematizing skills of knowledge, develop to report own ideas, communicative skills.

Competence: SC1, FLCC, and PC

TYPE OF THE LESSON: written, oral(practical).

TEACHING AIDS: dictionary, text- book , images, presentation, magnet board, projector or TVset

METHOD OF THE LESSON: interactive method.

Procedure of the lesson

  I.    Organization moment

Good morning, boys and girls and our guests

I’m glad to see you here today.

         You are welcome

First of all I want to ask you

1)    What famous universities are there in our country?

2)    What do you know about them?   (Answers)

Now, look at the image on the blackboard ant tell me where are the students? Your task is to match photos (A-D) with the phrases below.

II. Pre-activity.

Great! You did tour best! So, looking onto these pictures can you guess our today’s theme? Our theme for today is The University of Oxford. We are going to talk about it and to know some interesting facts.

Here is the fact file about The University of Oxford and we are going to read and listen to it. Pay attention to the highlighted words, after all we will do a task related to them.

Find the correct definition for each word.

Undergraduate           A formal talk on a serious subject given to a group of people, especially students.

Postgraduate               A long, loose piece of clothing worn over other clothes for a particular  purpose.

Population                     A university student who has not yet taken a first degree

Gown                             All the inhabitants of a particular place

Lecture                          The head of an elected government.

Prime minister              Student who has successfully completed an undergraduate degree level                                   course at a college university.

III. Main part.

1)    Pupils listen to 5 speakers and match the speakers with the sentences.

2)   Watch the video and choose the correct answer.

IV. Post-activity.

To sum up our lesson? I want you to write a short summary. The question is: Do you want to go to the University? Why? Why not? (students write and read their answers aloud)
