«DAILY ROUTINE»

Topic: Daily Routine

Timing: 45 minutes

Audience: 4th form

Objectives: By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:

  • use the words on the topic in writing and speech;

  • recognize this words in listening;

  • talk about their daily routines;

  • use the Present Indefinite Tense;

  • improve their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills

Materials and aids: notebooks, CD with audio records, laptop, multimedia projector, presentation, handout with the text to be read (HO1), test worksheet (HO2)

Procedure

I. Meeting and greeting

Good morning, boys and girls! Take your seats. Who is on duty today? Stand up, please. What is your name? What date is it today? What day is it today? Who is absent today? Thank you very much. Sit down, please.

(Slide 1) Today we are going to improve our skills and knowledge on the topic “Daily Routine” and Present Indefinite Tense.

I I. Warming-up

First let’s warm-up with suggested word puzzle. Write down the date, listen to the record, and try to find 10 word-combinations on the screen. (Slide 2, first record).

Keys: get dressed, dry hair, eat breakfast, wake up early, go to school, get home quickly, wash face, take a bath, study at school.

Now let’s play a “Snowball game” with this word-combinations.

I I I. Main part

  1. Pre-reading task

Answer my questions, please. When do you wake up in the morning? What do you usually do in the morning? How many lessons do you have at school? Describe your afternoon. Describe your evening.

  1. Reading

Thank you for good answers. Now you are ready to read and translate the text. We will play the game “Translators”. One pupil will read the sentence and name the translator. Then translator will name the next reader.


Ann’s Daily Routine

As a rule, I wake up at half past six. I go to bathroom, wash my face, brush my teeth and get dressed. Good health is better than wealth, so I do my morning exercises. I get breakfast at seven-thirty and listen to the news over the radio.

I like to begin the day well, so my breakfast is always a good one. For breakfast, I usually have boiled eggs or an omelette, bread and butter, tea.

Then, I say "Good-bye" to my mother, take my school bag and go to school. I do not live far from my school, so I get there quickly. The lessons start at half past eight. Each lesson lasts for 45 minutes. I like to study at school. The classes are over at two o'clock.

I come back home, have dinner, wash up and go shopping. I buy foodstuffs for the family. Coming back, I begin to clean the house and get the vegetables ready for supper. We have supper at seven. I do my homework for the next day. It usually takes me several hours to prepare well for the lessons. In the evening, I always try to spend at least an hour at the piano. As a rule, my parents and I sit and talk, watch a film on TV, read newspapers and magazines. Sometimes, we go to the cinema or to the theatre. Once or twice a month, I visit exhibitions in my hometown.

In the evening I take a bath, dry hair and go to bed at about eleven o'clock, but my parents like to sit up late and write letters or read.


  1. Post-reading task

Children now you have to answer the questions to the text in written form. Open your copybooks please (Slide 3). Now in pares ask and answer this questions.

  1. Work in small groups

In groups of three compose short conversations about your daily routines in Present Indefinite Tense and using the words: always, usually, sometimes, seldom, rarely, never and tell them to your classmates (Slide 4).

  1. Audio test. You are very well done. In addition, the last task for you is to cope with the test (HO, second record). You will listen to the audio record and connect the pictures with the numbers on your sheets of paper.

Exchange your works and check them up. The key is: 1. go to school, 2. brush teeth, 3. dry hair, 4. take a bath, 5. wake up, 6. eat breakfast, 7. study, 8. get dressed, 9. wash face, 10. come home.

IV. Summarizing

  1. Game “Microphone”. Children, pass toy-microphone to each other answering the following questions: What did you learn? What did we train? What did we improve? What did you like?

  2. Evaluation of students.
