A Job for Life

Тема: A Job for Life.

Цель урока: обобщение и систематизация умений и навыков на основе монологических и диалогических высказываний по теме в форме дискуссии, деловой игры.

Развивающий аспект: развитие воображения, умения высказывать свою точку зрения, личное отношение к поставленной проблеме; умения аргументировать свое высказывание, определить и сформулировать собственные пути решения проблемы.

Воспитательный аспект: воспитание толерантного отношения учащихся друг к другу, способности к сотрудничеству и умению общаться.

презентация в программе Power Point 2003

задания в программе “Hot Рotatoes”

ХОД УРОКА

I. Greeting. Warm-up.

Teacher (далее – T): Hello, everybody. The subject of our lesson today is “A Job for Life”. We are going to have a lesson where various jobs will be discussed.(слайд№1)

Comment on the following quotations. (Слайд№2)

1. “When work is pleasure, life is a joy. When work is a duty, life is slavery.” Maxim Gorky.

2. “All work and no play make Jack a dull boy.” James Howell

3. “By the work one knows the workmen.” Jean De La Fontaine

4. “Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work.” Aristotle

5. “Real success in finding your lifework in the work you love.” David McCullough

6. “People forget how fast you did a job – but they remember how well you did it.” Howard Newton.

7. “ … in order that a man may be happy, it is necessary that he should not only be capable of his work, but a good judge of his work.” John Ruskin

8. “Work saves us from three great devils: boredom, vice and need.” Voltaire

9. “Far and away the best prize that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.” Theodore Roosevelt

II. Listening. In a minute you’ll listen to the teenagers talking about how to choose a profession and answer these questions (Слайд№3)

III. Analyzing the interview. ( Cлайд№4 -12) – за несколько дней до урока два ученика получили задание составить опросный лист и взять интервью у обучающихся 9-11 классов, чтобы на уроке в форме диаграмм рассказать о результатах исследования.

T: You know, that choosing a profession is a topical problem for our school-leavers. Roman has interviewed the students of the 11^th form about their plans for the future. We’ll ask him to tell us about the interview.

T: Well, friends, I see that choosing a profession is very important to you. You know there are highly-paid and low-paid, challenging and boring jobs. Now I’d like you to answer the question: Which is more important – a high salary or satisfaction? My job, for example, is not highly-paid, but it is extremely interesting. What’s your opinion of the problem? What profession will you never choose? (Discussion).

T: Now I'm giving the floor to Olga and Vika, who will give a detailed analysis of your job preferences according to the results of the poll held among our school-leavers. (Слайд № 13-15 )

TASK (“HOT POTATOES” –“J-Close” ) –Приложение №1-2- обучающиеся выполняют на рабочем месте в ноутбуках, а один – за компьютером, подключенным к проектору. Через 3 минуты его работа выводится на экран, и мы все вместе проверяем

T. Now I want Nastya to tell us about job rating in our region. (Слайд №16-17)

IV. Read and guess their possible professions (Cлайд №18-20)

V. T: Imagine that you are administrators on professional personnel recruitment. Have a look at the information about the applicants and say which of them you’d hire to work as a teacher in a children’s camp. Give your reasons. - Cлайд № 21

Jane Grey, 19 –

- has been a baby-sitter for 2 years;

- loves children, likes reading to them, playing games.

Rose Green, 21 -

- an Arts student, has a rich imagination;

- good at literature, music, painting;

- has a younger sister, looks after her.

Dave Rick, 25 -

- very sociable, the soul of a company;

- plays the guitar and sings well;

- has never worked with children.

Linda Brown, 34-

- would like to be independent of her parents and is ready to do any job;

- responsible and reliable;

- has an experience of working with children, but isn’t keen on this kind of job.)

VI. Which of these people are the healthiest? Compare these jobs and explain the reasons for your choice. - (СЛАЙД №22)

Bob:

Job: works in a shop (standing all day)

Exercise: none

Smoking/drinking: drinks half a bottle of beer a week

Diet: has chips at lunch, pizza in the evening

Alice:

Job: a teacher at school (sometimes she is very nervous)

Exercise: plays table tennis, basketball

Smoking/drinking: smokes from time to time

Diet: eats a lot of spicy food, likes cakes, sweets

Kate:

Job: a computer programmer (sits at a desk all day)

Exercise: plays baseball two times a week

Smoking/drinking: drinks a glass of Coca-Cola every day

T. And now you’ll do a matching exercise (A pupil goes to the computer) “HOT POTATOES”(“ JMATCH” –Приложение №3-4) - обучающиеся выполняют на рабочем месте в ноутбуках, а один – за компьютером, подключенным к проектору. Через 2 минуты его работа выводится на экран, и мы все вместе проверяем

VII. Language work

Say it in one word: ( СЛАЙД №23)

to move someone to a more important job, position in a company (to promote);
money, usually added to pay as a reward for good work (bonus);
a period during each day or night when workers in a factory or hospital etc., are at work (shift);
the act of being in charge of a group of workers and being responsible for making sure that they do their work (supervision);
something that tests strength, skill or ability (challenge);
extra things such as luncheon vouchers or free medical insurance over and above basic pay (perks);
someone who is being trained for a job (trainee);
someone who has recently joined a group of people or organization (recruit).

Read the following definitions and choose the right answers (СЛАЙД№24)

5. A person who takes care of people in a hospital is called a …

a) carpenter; b) nurse; c) barber

VIII. Рефлексия(СЛАЙД№25)

Используется приём “Синквейн” - это стихотворение, которое требует синтеза информации и материала в коротких выражениях.

Правила написания синквeйна:

В первой строчке тема называется одним словом (существительным).

Вторая строчка-это описание темы в двух словах (два прилагательных).

Третья строка-описание действия в рамках темы тремя глаголами.

Четвертая – это фраза из четырех слов, показывающая отношение к теме.

Каждой группе даётся 5 минут на то, чтобы написать выбранный ими вид стиха. (Можно задать написание стихов на дом, чтобы ученики приготовили постеры, а потом оформить в классе стенд).

T. Our lesson is over. I want to say you “Thank you very much for your brilliant work” and I would like to give you such advice. (Cлайд №26)

Краткое описание документа:

В данном файле три документа:

- конспект урока;

- итерактивные тесты, составленные с помощью программы "Hot Potatoes";

- презентация.

Урок составлен к УМК М.З.Биболетовой и др." Английский с удовольствием" для 11класса общеобразовательных школ. Здесь охвачены все виды деятельности: аудирование, говорение (монологическая и диалогическая речь), чтение, контроль знания лексики по теме.

Упражнения очень разнообразны по форме, поэтому обучающиеся не устают, хотя плотность урока довольно высокая.

За несколько дней до урока отдельные обучающиеся получили задание провести исследовательскую работу среди учеников 9-11 классов, предворительно составив опросный лист.

Урок заканчивается рефлексией, для чего используется приём "Синквейн".
