I. Приветствие. I’m glad you are fine today, that’s why I suggest our listening to the wonderful song and poems.

II.

What do you think we are going to speak about during this lesson? Yes, you are right. Today we are going to speak about Great Britain, Russia and our republic Tatarstan.

Teacher: Look at the screen , here are three proverbs:

  1. East or west, home is best.

  2. There is no place like home.

  3. When in Rome, Do as the Romans do.

Could you say which of them suits to the theme of our lesson? Could you find the Russian equivalent to this proverb?

People say “So many countries, so many traditions”. So the theme of our lesson is “Traditions and customs in Great Britain, in Russia and Tatarstan”. We’ve learnt a lot about the geographical positions of these countries. Today we are going to speak about their traditions and customs, about famous holidays. We’ll play a game “snow ball” and after that listen to your short stories about holidays.

III.

Fist of all let’s look at the flags.

How do people call these flags? Hwo many colours are there in the flag of Tatarstan?

- Now let’s stop. We’ll take an excursion to The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Nothern Ireland, Russia and Tatarstan. Will you go to the blackboard, please? You can see the pictures and the names of the cities. You will match the pictures of an interesting place and the name of the city.

IV.

Your work is excellent. I see you know the main sights of these cities and what about other interesting facts? Such as symbols, festivals, national dishes of Great Britain, Russia and Tatarstan. So, let’s see… I’ll read you a sentence and you are to say if you agree or disagree using these expressions.

I think , I believe, I guess, I’m sure, It’s possible that, I can’t agree that, I’ll never believe that, I don’t think)

Now you will agree or disagree with me.

Pan cakes are the main symbol of Russian Maslenitsa.

Santa Claus is the main symbol of Tartar Christmas.

People celebrate Maslenitsa at the end of June or at the beginning of July.

Russian people celebrate Christmas on the 25th of December.

Balish is the English national dish.

By the way, what is the national dish which English people have on Christmas day?

People say that Tartar are easy-going people.

Some believe the English eat porridge for breakfast and read The Times every day.

Lets look at the screen. Here are the national costumes. You will see the costum and show the flag of the country which this costume belong to. Guess, who do they belong to?

VI. .

I invite you to play the game “snow ball”. You will say to your classmate a sentence; he will repeat your sentence further and says his own sentence. And the last pupil will tell us all that he has heard. Your task is to guess what festival he has spoken about. The fist team will be speaking about Russian festival, the second about English and the third about Tatar.

VII.

VIII.

I’ll give you cards according to you abilities and level of English.

Special days and festivals

Match the Special days and Festivals with their descriptions:

  1. Victory Day

  2. Women’s Day

  3. Russian Independence Day

  4. Easter

  5. New Year’s Day

  6. Maslenitsa

  7. Country Defendant’s Day

  1. We celebrate the day when Russia became an independent country, the Republic of Russian Federation after the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991. This is an official holiday.

  2. This holiday is devoted to soldiers and officers and all the men-defenders of our Motherland. Men are greeted with special cards and presents. Concerts are also given in their honor.

  3. This day is celebrated with present giving by Rather Frost, decorating New Year trees and joyful parties.

  4. This is the day off. Men and boys try to please their mothers, grannies, sisters, and girlfriends by giving them presents, flowers and chocolates.

  5. It celebrates the end of the Soviet Union’s participation in World War in Europe. Parades and processions of veterans are held in all the cities and towns of Russia. People lay flowers at the Eternal Fire and tombs of soldiers.

  6. This festival marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring. It lasts during a week. People make pancakes, sing traditional songs and dance traditional dances.

  7. It is the main Orthodox festival. Children and their parents colour eggs and prepare traditional Russian dishes. Churches hold special services that day.

IX.

Make up a dialogue on the following situation. One of you is from Russia, Tatarstan, another from Great Britain. The Englishman has come to your place. You are going to drink tea according to your national traditions. You have three minutes.

Now it’s high time to check your knowledge of our lesson. I suggest you doing a test.

XI.

We’ve spoken about British holidays, but we live in Russia, in Tatarstan. Our country is the largest in the world. We are proud of our traditions and customs in Russia. I am sure one of these holidays is your favorite. We proved the proverb “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” Because every country has it’s own customs and traditions. Every nation has a reputation of some kind.

Thank you for your work children. You were so active today. Will you count your flags? If you have from 8to 10 flags, you’ll have an excellent mark today. If you have from 6 to 8 flags, you will have a good mark. Do you like your lesson today?
