The land and the people of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
History and geography
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (the UK) is the official name of the state which is situated on the British Isles.
The British Isles is a group of islands off the north-western coast of Europe.
Great Britain is often the same as Britain and refers only to Scotland, England and Wales which are situated on the island of Great Britain.
They used to be different countries before they became united and got the name of the United Kingdom
Map of England within the United Kingdom England is the largest area within the United Kingdom. (see the map) Most of England comprises the central and southern part of the island of Great Britain in the North Atlantic. The country also includes over 100 smaller islands such as the Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight.
