Khakasia is situated in the
centre of the Asian continent. It is unique place in the south of
the Krasnoyarsk territory. The climate, nature, plenty of sunshine-
there are more than 300 sunny days in our Republic during a year,
that is why Khakasia is called ‘ the sunny Khakasia’. Also named
Siberian Switzerland. And it is called the archaeological Mecca of
Siberia. The total area 62 th.squ.km.Population 546,1 th. people.
Modern
Khakasia is a united family
of many nationalities, including Khakasians, Russians, Ukrainians,
Byelorussians, Germans, ets. Khakasia is rich in mineral resources;
marble, granite, gold, molybdenum, iron, coal, copper and tungsten-
which makes it a treasure of Mendeleev’s periodic system. Capital -
Abakan. Republic of Khakasia was founded in 1991. The symbol- is
snow leopard. The flower symbol- is one of the beautiful
flower-Zharki. The Khakasian steppes and mountains all bear these
historical symbols of our present - day life. There are some 30,000
archaeological monuments. The Great Salbyk burial- mound is well-known,
also the famous historical museum-Kazanovka The Great Saibyk excavated
by Prof. S.V.Kiselyov in 1954-1956. Now this is an open-air museum
since the walls of the fence made up of rough blocks of stone
have preserved their original form. The Leningrad Hermitage holds the
Znamensky gold treasure-1st century B.C.-to include exquisite
gold adornments made by ancient jewelers and other gold articlesThe
capital of our republic Abakan got its name from the name of the
river. It is the political, administrative, cultural and transport
centre of the republic. It was founded in April 1931. New amenities
are provided there every year.The inhabitants of Abakan love their
town . May Day Square and the Victory Park are the centre of the
town. The monument’Soldier’s Glory’ was erected in the Victory Park in
1975. An obelisk to the Communards was set up in 1927 to commemorate
those who gave their lives for the cause of workers and peasants.
The Abakan Museum of Regional -was founded in 1929-Studies is famous
for its fine archaeological collections. Visiting the halls of the
museum we can see all kinds of pictures, photos, things, weapons,
documents telling us about different periods of the Khakas history.
The exhibitions of the museum help us to study the past and the
present day life of our Republic. Rich collections of our museum
tell us about the history of Khakasia. Many streets of our town
are named after the herous of the Great Patriotic War, for example
K.Perekreshchenko, M. Tsukanova ets. The Khakas National Theatre was
founded in 1931. Now the Abakan Drama Theatre is named after M.
Lermontov. The theatre is located in a fine modern building in
Pervomaiskaya Square. There two companies in the theatre- a Russian
companies and a Khakas company. Also our republic is famous its the
puppet theatre’ Skazka’, studia for children’ Tchas Khanat’, One Man
Show’Chitigen/, the symphony orchestra formed in the year 2000, the
folk group ;Ulger; revived old national musical instruments. Throat
singing ‘ Khai’ is a visiting card of this group. At the map of
Khakasia you can see 5 towns; ABAZA- it was founded in 1966,
SAYANOGORSK -- it was founded in 1975, ABAKAN- it was founded in
1931, CHERNOGORSK—it was founded in 1936, SORSK—it was founded
RIVERS< LAKES. ANIMALS
In Khakasia there are about
500 lakes- 390 lakes with fresh water, 110 lakes with salt water.
One of the best known lakes are ; Lake Shira, other famous lake
is Lake Belye. There are about 324 rivers. The largest rivers are
the Yenissei, the Abakan, the Chulym, and the Tom. The total lehgth
of rivers is about eight thousand km. The main riveris the Abakan,
which is 514 km. long. It begins in the Kuznetskii Alatau mountains.
Water reservoirs are rich in fish. There are 324 rivers . More
than 40 of the region is covered with forests, with their complexes of
flora and fauna. The fauna is various; there are about 1526 species
of flora - 17 kinds of them have been entered into the Red Book.
In flora of Khakasia- 23 kinds, rare and disappearing-58 kinds, in
flora of khakasia- 187 kinds. 295 kinds of birds- 35 species of them
are entered into the Red Book. 68 kinds of mammals, 5 kinds of
reptiles, 4 kinds of amphibious. The highest mountain in our region
is Mount Karagosh- is about 3000 metres high—about two third of the
territory is occupied by mountains.
In our Republic
there are 276 secondary schools. The first school was built in 1864
and located in the village of Ust-Abakanskoye. H
