Love and Kindness create wonders

I returned into my Ice Palace and found nobody there. Kay had disappeared. Snowflakes, Kay’s guards, said that Gerda had come and taken Kay back home. How angry I was! I became enraged! How could she dare to do it? How could she dare to warm his icy heart? He was mine! I decided to return Kay by all means.

I found their house at once. When I looked through the window Kay and Gerda were sitting comfortably near the fireplace talking about something. Gerda noticed me. I was sure she would be afraid of me. But nothing of that kind. She stood up, came to the door, opened it and said: “Welcome, the Snow Queen”. It was so unusually. I had never stepped inside an ordinary house. I was not accustomed to being treated warmly. I felt something had changed inside of me. Shocking I entered the room. They were hospitable and greeted me friendly. Kay said: “We have the dear guest. Let’s have tea”. And again there was the feeling that something strange happened inside of me. You don’t believe but I really drank tea with them!

Gerda and Kay were very generous and attentive to me. It was so nice of them to treat me kindly. And as for me …. Shame on me! I burnt with shame because I captured Kay and wanted him to become a cruel and selfish boy, turned his heart into a chunk of ice, and caused him to forget about Gerda, his family, and his

friends.

We had a long talk and I asked pardon for my awful misbehavior. But it turned out they had already forgotten me. They were not angry with me. “We talked about you much”, said Kay. “We think you are a lonely, unhappy woman. And we want you to be happy. You need our care and love. You should make some friends and we are ready to be your friends”. I listened to him carefully and felt very strange. Something was changing constantly inside of me. I tried but couldn’t realize what it was for a long time. And, suddenly, I understood what the matter was. It was my heart! My icy heart was thawing! My soul wasn’t longer frozen. I looked around with great surprise. My new friends smiled. ”Let’s go to the market Square”, said Gerda. ”There are a lot of children now and we can have a fun”.

It was unforgettable! I could hardly imagine how many interesting events can happen in winter. We played snowballs, skated, skied, had sleigh rides and made a snowman. I tried everything! Everybody cheered me friendly as I took an active part in different winter activities. I was very good at many of them and the best in figure skating. It was fantastic! For many years I only used to drive my sleigh carriage and could hardly ever imagine something of that sort. I was full of expressions. I loved everything and everybody. I got a lot of new real friends. I didn’t feel alone any more.

But everything ends some time. It was high time to go home. I invited my new friends to visit my Ice Palace. Why should it be empty? It was so suitable for

winter activities. All children got interested in my invitation and accepted it gratefully.

After returning home I began preparations for the forthcoming meeting and soon the whole Palace was transformed into a magic winter fantasy. My Ice Palace became very magnificent and beautiful. It was ready for receiving guests. At last it happened. The guests came and wonders of winter activities began. There was sleighing, ice skating, and snowball fun, skiing and snowshoe hikes. Of course, the most magnificent was Snow Sculpture completion. And building of the castle out of snow and ice was favourite with children. Children also enjoyed riding a reindeer. It was the reindeer that carried Gerda to my Palace. Among the guests there were also the Princess and her Prince, the robber girl and her mother, the Lapp woman and the Finn woman who also helped Gerda to find and save Kai. They were glad to see each other again. All my guests had a cheerful time. It was a real winter Paradise for them. As for me I was amazed and excited and happy too. I am going to organize the Snow Queen’s winter festival annually. Welcome!
