Когда с запада въедешь, то резко
Красотой очаруешься, друг:
Это город наш, Ленинск-Кузнецкий,

Город мой, среди самых чудесных

Что характер твой в лавах железных
Закаляется, словно в огне.
Ты красив красотою неброской,
Но нельзя не гордиться тобой,
Когда утром в спецовке шахтерской
Ты уходишь работать в забой.
Но ты – город не только шахтеров,
Здесь и женщины – гордость твоя:
Здесь мужьям не уступит в задоре
Ни текстильщица и ни швея.
В ожерелье жемчужин кузбасских
Пусть блестишь ты не первой звездой,
Но душой ты – шахтерской закваски,
Даже в восемдесят три – молодой!
The emblem depicts a French shield with a black
extremity. The colour of a shield is white (silver). In the centre of a shield
there is a triangle with letters “L” and “K”. The letters symbolize a
piledriver with a wheel of eight spokes and waste bank. In the left and right
parts of the emblem there are two red segments limited by circumference. In the
lower part the circumference has a form of a white (silver) gear on the black
background.
The blue colour of letters in the form of a ribbon symbolizes the river Inya. The red colour is the symbol of bravery, fire, revolutionary traditions of the town. Black – the colour of coal – is the natural riches of Leninsk-Kuznetsky.
The emblem reflects the peculiarities of its geography, history and industry (coal-mining).
These anthems are devoted to the 60th anniversary of Leninsk-Kuznetsky.

Leninsk-Kuznetsky is one of the largest towns of the Kuzbass. It is situated in the western part of Kemerovo region on the Inya river. Leninsk-Kuznetsky is surrounded by Altai, Novosibirsk and Krasnoyarsk regions. Its history started from a small village of Kolchugino mentioned for the first time in 1763. The first mine began to function in 1883. In 1922 the village was named Lenino and in 1925 it became the town of Leninsk-Kuznetsky.
Its total area is 128 square kilometers. The population
is about 175.500. Many places are picturesque. In our town there are many
places connected with its history, such as Monuments to the Heroes of March
uprising, to the soldiers who died in the battles during the Second World War, Afghan
War, to A.P. Schilin, twice Hero of the Soviet Union. 10 citizents are the
Heroes of the Soviet Union.
During last years the town has turned into an industrial and cultural centre of the Kuzbass. The main mineral resources of our town are coals reserves of which make up hundreds of tons. Mining is the leading industry of Leninsk-Kuznetsky. There are many coal mines here. They are “Komsomolets”, “The 7th of November”, “Kostromovskaya”, “The mine after Kirov” and others. The last one is well-known abroad. And of course the main profession is the miner. Town residents are proud of people whose life is connected with this profession.
In Leninsk-Kuznetsky there are many mining
dynasties. For example, The Chernyshevs from “Komsomolets”, whose length of
service is 150 years, The Rices – 320 years, The Kositsyns – 75 years from the
mine “The 7th of November” and others.
Other industries are chemical, building and food processing.
The cultural life of the city is represented
by the museum of Local Lore, History and Economy, 15 libraries, 4 cinemas, an
exhibition hall, music schools, a school of arts.
Cultural life began to develop successfully at the beginning of 2000. There are some cinemas such as “Pobeda”, Central Palace of Culture, Palaces of Culture by Yaroslavsky, by Lenin. The culture of Leninsk-Kuznetsky is on the third place in our region after Kemerovo and Novokuznetsk. In our town there are many honoured people who work in the field of culture. Our young performers go to different festivals and win prizers. With the help of our governer A.G. Tuleev and head of our town V.K. Ermakov 50 children get town scholarships. The choir of Russian song “Razdolie” under leadership of A. Suvorov and “The Mining Dawn” under V. Trofimov are famous all over Russia. Young dancers from “Rap-time” and “Kalinushka” win spectators’ hearts not only from Russia but from different countries.
The citizens of our town like to go to the libraries where they talk and meet with famous people. Such literature unions as “Parus”, “A Path to Parnas”, “LIK” are famous in our region. Many singers, actors, artists come to our town every year. Their tours became traditional.
In 1975 our town appeared on the world sport map. Maria Filatova, Valentin Mogilny and Alexei Tikhonkikh were the first who made Leninsk-Kuznetsky famous all over the world.
Now Leninsk-Kuznetsky is one of the most sporting towns of the Kuzbass. Our sportsmen take part in different championships. K. Pavlov became the World and Europe champion for the tenth time. T. Eltsova is the champion for the third time, M. Devyatovsky a famous gymnast took part in the Olympic Games.
Such kinds of sport as power-lifting, football, Graeco-Roman wrestling, skiing, and kickboxing are popular among people.
Leninsk-Kuznetsky is famous for the Olympic Reserve School (for promising young sportsmen). The school is proud of several champions of Russia, World and Olympic Games, such as Maria Filatova, Valentin Mogilny, Alexei Tikhonkikh.
Leninsk-Kuznetsky has its own football club
“Zarya” founded in 1987. Its coach is S.N. Vasyutin. In 2005 “Zarya” took part
in Russian championship. One of the best players is A. Smertin who played then
in Moscow “Lokomotiv”, “Bordo”, “Chelsea”.
The stadium “Schakhtyer” is always full of fans. There you can see boys and girls, pensioners and businessmen, teachers and workers, all those who like football.
In
Leninsk-Kuznetsky there are 21 schools, 2 gymnasiums, a mining and educational
colleges, a branch of Tomsk state Architectural-Building University, a branch
of Tomsk State University of Control systems and Radio Electronics.
Every town and city has interesting places to see. And in our town there are some of them. They are: the museum of Local Lore, History and Economy the exhibition hall, the alley of miners, Gorky Park, “Pobeda” cinema, a swimming pool “Vodny Mir”.
Every epoch leaves
its mark in history. There is no future without past. The deeds of people are
not forgotten, they live in the names of streets, squares, monuments of the
towns, cities.
Some streets in our town are named after people who created its history. For example, Tusnolobova St., Chekmaryev St., Tekstilschikov Prospect, Boulevar of Khimikov. Other streets bear the names of renowned citizens of the town or famous people whose life and creative work were connected with the town. They are Matsienko St., Zvarygin St., and Musohranov St., S.P. Abramtsev, I.P. Vasiliev, T.I. Vostrikov, S.K. Alekseev, I.I. Kurenkov, A.E. Pogoreltsev, P.S. Schakurin, A.P. Schilin.
Nine people are the honorary citizens of Leninsk-Kuznetsky.
They are:
E. Klinnikova
She was working for a long time as a turner at our “Kuzbasselement” factory. She was trainer of youth, participant of amateur performances, associate editor of local newspaper. Nowadays she takes part in the life of the town.
N.
Matsienko
He was the participant of the Great Patriotic War, the honorable miner of our town. One of the streets in our town is named after him.
A. Zelman
Alexander Ivanovich is the surgeon of the highest category, the brilliant teacher, the deputy of the city council and a member of executive committee of the city council. Now he is a member of the Council of Elders.

Alya Alekseevna has such high ranks as «the Deserved teacher of school of RSFSR», «the National teacher of the Russian Federation», an award of the Labour Red Banner, a medal «For valorous work», a medal «For the special contribution to development of the Kuzbass» of the second degree, a medal of "60 years of Kemerovo region», a sign «Honourable teacher of the Kuzbass», a medal «For the special contribution to development of the Kuzbass» of the first degree.
M. Philatova
The Deserved master of sports, the Olympic champion (1976, 1980), the World champion (1978), the owner of a World Cup in 1977 and 1978, the champion of Europe (1977), the absolute champion of the USSR (1977), the champion of the USSR (1977). For high achievements in sports she was recognized as the best sports-woman of the Kuzbass of the 20th century. She is put into the Guinness Book of Records as the unique sportswoman who has won a world champion title on all gymnastic apparatuses.
V. Mazikin
He is a doctor of Technical sciences, the author of a great number of articles about coal industry. Nowadays he is the first deputy of the Head of our Region.
G. Stalyarov
He is the trainer in our Olympic Reserve School. He trained such sportsmen as the champions of the world A. Tikhonkikh, V. Simacov, the champion of Europe M. Devytovsky and others.
B. Michalyev
Awards: a sign «Miner's glory» of the third degree, a medal «For merits before Fatherland» of the second degree, a medal «For special contribution to development of the Kuzbass» of the third, second degrees, an award «Valour of the Kuzbass», "the Honour" award, the Honorary title «the Hero of Kuzbass», «the Deserved miner of Kuzbass», the Honourable citizen of the Kemerovo region.
He is the Merit miner of our town.

Leninsk-Kuznetsky is very rich in talented people. Among them are: poets A. Schischkin, V. Pomanchin, and T. Berlyukova, painters Lomov.
We love our native land and are proud of our home town Leninsk-Kuznetsky!
