Урок английского языка по теме Субкультуры

Конспект урока в 9 классе

по теме: «Молодежь. Проблемы молодежи. Субкультуры».

I. Организационный момент.

Good-afternoon, boys and girls! It’s nice to meet you! Sit down, please.

What date is it today? OK. Thank you.

Let’s begin our English lesson.

You’ve got a mail! Nastya, please, read the message - « I’m very glad to see you today»

Send it to everyone in our class.

So, we are ready to start learning English.

II Введение темы урока.

Imagine that you are journalists. The chief editor organized a competition for you to make a FACT FILE about youth organizations in different countries (not only English speaking countries!). You’ll get a special task at the end of our lesson. But first we’ll talk about young people, revise some material about youth organizations for you to be ready to do the task!

III. Повторение лексики. Работа по теме.

To start speaking about the topic let’s revise some words and word expressions. On the board you can see a list of words about young people. Choose the words from the list to describe teenagers today and we’ll make an image of an up-to-date teenager. You may add some more words or word expressions.

You know that there are many people so there are many opinions. They may be different especially about young people.

Let’s listen to the opinions of different people about young people. Your task is to define - Who do these opinions about young people belong to?

an elderly person, a middle-aged person, a teenager? –So, these are different opinions.

Sometimes young people face different problems. What are they? Let’s talk about them.

You’ll work in two groups - the1st group will think and write some problems,

the 2nd group will find solutions to problems. We’ll do a mini project. (2 миниплаката, маркеры)

Sometimes young people join groups or subcultures. Why do teens join a subculture? (обсуждение)

I need two pupils to make a dialogue about subcultures in Great Britain and act it out.

Put the conversation in right order and act it out.

- You know that our country is very developed. That is why

it is the cradle of different subcultures.

- Yes, and most of them are closely connected with

music, art and reflecting the history of Great Britain.

-I read much about this and can say that in the beginning of the 20th century

subcultures were not yet steady and numerous.

- I cannot understand the reason of their appearance and why they

gain more and more popularity?

- To my mind it's quite clear: these groupings provide a place

where different talents of young people could interact.

The rest of the class - I’ll give you small shirts of paper with a description of a subculture, read them, guess a subculture and find a person who has the text about the same subculture. Find your partner.

1.They appreciate everything, connected with love and death. Their point of view on life can be called as «depressive romantism». Usually members of this subculture dye their hair and nails in black . They have slim bodies, and a fantastic make-up. The main idea of their style is to look like vampires, witches or black magicians.

1. They like different kinds of music. But they prefer listening to black metal, gothic rock, or classical music. They enjoy different operas, musicals and songs, played by orchestras. Music can be aggressive or soft and melancholy – it doesn't matter. It must be full of deep sense. Lyrics are very important for them.

2. It is a culture, a way of life that makes you a happy unique individual, with no concern of what others think of you.

They are opposed to the values, norms and materialism in the society.

They are easy to identify among other movements because of their hair-do.

2. As for their style of dress there's only one main demand - to protest fashion. In two words the main trend of their style is tastelessness.

They prefer loud and violent music, lyrics which frequently contain oppositional themes anti- romantic love songs, anti-parents, anti- police, etc.

3.Just like bikers take "freedom" as the main idea of their movement. They protests against governmental system, they believe that they fight against it with system's own weapon. They also neglect all social rules.

3.They have very long hair, often with flowers in it. They used to wear flared trousers or long skirts and sometimes went barefoot.

4.The name of this subculture is derived from the English word “Emotion”. A person who can express himself or herself freely. Expression of emotions is their main rule. They can be sad or happy. They are sensitive and they can be easily depressed. They are thin, tall, with pale faces, black haired, hair should be straight a fringe closing one eye.

4.Favourite colours are black and pink. Tight jeans with holes and patches. Skin tight T-shirts. Rubber soled sports boots. Pierced ears, nose, tongue.

Scream is a keyword of their favourite music. Whispering and crying are often heard in their song. Texts are about unhappy love, injustice the world which is full of violence and aggression.

5. This is a kind of youth subculture that was formed in London in 1969 and later gets wide subdivision. Their style of clothes is: camouflage trousers, boots and T-shirts.

5.Literally it means «skin head», other words «bald-headed». Nowadays' they wear blue jeans tucked to big black boots (or rolled up), braces and Norfolk jackets. According to music they prefer listen to reggae, rock-steady. Now they have a very few in common with the first representatives of this subculture.

Now let’s listen to a dialogue first and then the stories about different subcultures.

Teacher: (проверяю понимание текстов – What is your subculture? Name it. What are the main characteristics of these groups?

IV. Объяснение домашнего задания.

You know that there are many youth groups, organizations, subcultures in different countries. So, your task as journalists is to visit some Internet sites and find information about subcultures in different countries (not only English speaking countries):

to get «5» - find information about a subculture (12-15 sentences), make 2 slides of Power Point Presentation and tell the class about the results of your survey.

to get «4» - find information about a subculture (11-12 sentences), write it in your exercise-books and tell the class about the results.(written form and oral presentation)

to get «3» - find information about a subculture (9-10 sentences), write it in your exercise-books.

V. Итог урока.

To finish our work I’d like to read you the rhyme «Devotion» by Robert Frost

The heart can think of no devotion

Greater than being shore to the ocean -

Holding the curve of one position,

Counting an endless repetition.

Да будет сердце постоянно

Как будто берег океана,

Оставшийся самим собою

средь вечных перемен прибоя.

I wish you to be self-confident, active, creative, flexible, develop a positive attitude to life and people …. in our changeable world!

And we’ve already got a mail: @ I was glad to work with you today @ Send it to your classmates.

Thank you for your work today. The lesson is over. Good-bye.
