Тема. Schools and School Life in Great Britain and Ukraine




Практична мета: повторити слова з теми «Schools and School Life in Great Britain and Ukraine»; удосконалювати навички усного мовлення; розвивати вміння вести бесіду у зв’язку з ситуацією.


Освітня мета: поглибити знання учнів з теми; підвищувати мотивацію вивчення іноземної мови; удосконалювати культуру спілкування учнів; формувати пізнавальний шнтерес до життя народу тієї країни, мова якої вивчається.


Розвиваюча мета: розвивати мовну здогадку та мовленнєву реакцію; розвивати уяву учнів в умовах гри; розвивати фонетичний та інтонаційний слух; розвивати готовність до участі в іншомовному спілкуванні.


Виховна мета: виховувати почуття ввічливості, позитивне ставлення до іноземної мови; виховувати розуміння важливості оволодіння іноземною мовою і потреби користуватися нею як засобом спілкування.


Обладнання: паперові долоні для компліментів; ватмани для групової роботи; картки з прислів’ями; кросворд на ватмані; вірш «The Time-table of Lazy-bones Grundy» для кожного учня; сувеніри (прапорці Великої Британії та України з побажаннями та компліментами); аудіозапис пісні «Yesterday»; презентації шкіл Великої Британії та України; комп’ютер; комп’ютерна програма «Англійська без акценту. Професор Хіггінс».







Хід уроку


1. Привітання. Мотивація навчальної діяльності


Teacher: Good morning, dear boys and girls! I am so glad to see you at our lesson again.


Pupils: Good morning, Tetiana Anatoliivna!


Teacher: Sit down, please. I hope you are fine and we’ll have wonderful minutes of communication. Let’s remember and recite the poem «Actions».


If we meet and I say «Hi»,

That’s a salutation.

If you ask me how I feel,

That’s consideration.

If we stop and talk awhile,

That’s a conversation.

If we understand each other,

That’s communication.

If we argue, scream and fight,

That’s an altercation.

If later we apologize,

That’s reconciliation.

If we help each other home,

That’s cooperation.

And all these «actions» added up

Make civilization.


Good. I’m sure you know that one of the most important «actions» mentioned in the poem is communication. I think you’ll agree that civilization is impossible without communication. People should communicate to understand each other. So let’s try to be polite and attentive to each other, let’s learn to communicate because it is the main aim of our lessons.

And now I’d like you to say something pleasant to each other to make somebody feel good! But at first take these paper hands and write down some compliments to your friend on the fingers.Then give your hand to your friend and say these compliments. So start, please.

P6: Thank you, Inna. And you are kind, hard-working, well-mannered, modest and shy.

P7: Alina, you are honest, kind-hearted, sociable and lively! You are so beautiful!

P8: Yarik, you are so kind! You are clever, shy, a good dancer and handsome. Your smile is so sweet!


P9 – P10:

P9: Ania, you are so attractive, lively and smart. You are always ready to help and full of ideas!

P10: Dasha, you are polite, shy, intelligent, hard-working and attractive too.


P11 – P12:

P11: Natalia, you are clever, smart, friendly, beautiful and cheerful.

P12: Thank you, Yulia. And I want to say that you are pretty, you have long and thick hair. You are lively and funny. You are special!

Teacher: But sometimes naughty! And very noisy!


P13 – P14:

P13: Yulia, you are kind and clever! You are beautiful and as graceful as a swan! You are the best friend!

P14: Thank you, Ira. And you are pretty, industrious, wise and very clever. You are a genius!

P13: No, I am not!

P14: Yes, you are!

Teacher: So, today we are going to speak about schools and school life in Great Britain and Ukraine and I hope our lesson will be interesting, useful and fascinating. We’ll remember words and word-combinations on the topic, we’ll learn more information about schools and school life in Great Britain and Ukraine and, of course, we’ll improve our communicative skills.

- What do you usually do at the lessons of Mathematics? (At the lessons of Mathematics we usually count, calculate, do sums, solve problems, ...)

- What do you usually do at the lessons of PT? (At the lessons of PT we usually run, jump, play active games, do exercises and hold competitions in volley-ball,….)

- What do you usually do at the lessons of English? (AT the lessons of English we usually read books, stories, texts, rules, exercises, write sentences, exercises, words, tests, dictations, recite poems, sing songs, answer the teacher’s questions, ...)


Open your day-books, look at your time-table and say: how many lessons do you have on Monday (Tuesday, …)? What are they?

Emily: Excuse me, but I’d like to learn something about your school.

Tetiana Veniaminivna: Good afternoon, Emily.

Emily: Good afternoon, Tetiana Veniaminivna. What institute or university did you graduate from?

Tetiana Veniaminivna: I think, school has become more attractive.

Emily: What foreign languages do the pupils of your school study?

Tetiana Veniaminivna: English and German.

Emily: What impact does learning of two languages have on the pupils?

Tetiana Veniaminivna: First of all, it develops not only mental abilities, but broadens children’s outlooks. Moreover all possibilities are created in our school for mastering foreign languages.

Emily: Thank you very much. I wish you good luck and to have many clever and hard-working pupils.

  1. Days when pupils do not go to school and stay at home or travel (vacation).

13. Робота в групах («Шкільні правила для учнів», «Шкільні правила для вчителів»)


Teacher: You know that every school must have a code of conduct. So, next our task will be about school rules.

(Учитель бере тацю із блакитними та жовтими зірочками і пропонує дітям взяти одну зірочку. Учні беруть.)

Teacher: Please, take one of these stars... Now unite in a blue group and a yellow group. A blue group must think and write rules for children and a yellow group must invent rules for teachers. Then present your project works.


(Під спокійну музику учні готують проекти, потім їх захищають)


14. Обговорення та класифікація поганої поведінки в школі


Teacher: Now take the cards with the examples of bad behaviour in school and classify them as: very bad behaviour, quite bad behaviour and not bad behaviour.

    • Chewing gum or eating sweets in class

    • Playing truant (not coming to school/not telling parents)

    • Smoking in the school building (in the toilets?)

    • Swearing (using bad language)

    • Swearing at a teacher or insulting a teacher

    • Not doing homework

    • Cheating in exams (copying from secret notes or another pupil)

    • Shouting and making noise during lessons

    • Running in the corridors

    • Writing on walls, desks and other school property

    • Stealing from other pupils pockets or bags

    • Calling a teacher or another pupil bad names (bullying)

    • Carrying a dangerous weapon (gun, knife, penknife)

    • Hitting other pupils or teachers

    • Not listening/paying attention in lessons

    • Wearing unsuitable clothes for school

    • Kissing boys/girls during the lesson or in the corridor

    • Leaving the classroom without permission    

15. Дискусія про покарання за погану поведінку в школі


Teacher: Are there any special punishments for very bad behaviour?

P4: Yes, there are. But in our country they are not so strict. For example, a teacher can send a pupil to a headmaster, or ivite parents to school.

Teacher: You are quite right.

P5: And what is the most common form of puniahment in British school? (Звертається до Емілі)

Emily: The most common forms of punishment in our school are exclution, suspension, detention and lines.

  • Exclusion: a pupil is excluded from the school and cannot come back. The pupil has to find a new school or a different method of education (home tutor, special centre for difficult pupils)

  • Suspension: when a pupil is suspended they cannot enter the building or attend lessons until the school has a meeting about their case. Suspension can last from 1 to 45 days in a school term. The school usually gives work to do at home with a tutor (special teacher).

  • Detention: a pupil is detained/asked to stay at school at the end of the school day. The pupil must work for 30 minutes or an hour more before they are allowed to leave the school.

  • Lines: a pupil has to write a sentence many times (100 times) on a sheet of paper. An example sentence: I must not shout in class. This punishment is sometimes given during detention too.

Teacher: So, children, I’m sure you understand that school teaches you how to behave, it teaches you a lot, and, of course, it prepares you for your future life. So, what do the teachers teach you at school?

Children: At school the teachers teach us to be … (friendly, honest, hard-working, kind-hearted, smart, active, serious, strong, healthy, polite, disciplined, helpful, tidy, thoughtful…).

16. Підсумок

Teacher: Children, you were very active and hard-working during our lesson. We have worked very hard today. I think that all of you deserve excellent marks.

Emily: Boys and girls, you are so clever! I want to give you some souvenirs.

(Роздає прапорці Великої Британії і говорить компліменти і побажання)

Teacher: Emily, we are so glad to have such a good friend from another country! And we want to give you a souvenir too.

Teacher: Children, write down your hometask. You have to prepare a project work about Teachers Staff.

And now express your attitude to our lesson.
