Step I. Crossword about Great Britain.


Across: 1-Thames; 4-Wales; 6-Snowdan; 8-England; 9-Dublin; 11-Ireland; 12-Edinbudgh.

Down: 2-Scotland; 3-Cardiff; 4-Windermere; 5-London; 7-Britain; 10-Belfast.


Step III. Theory:

Some geographic regions (The Baltics, The Far East, etc.).

Why are caws special in India?


About one billion people live in India. Many people live on small farms. They live a quiet and simple life. The family takes care of the farm and the animals. The most important animal on the farm is the caw. The caw helps on the farm in two ways. It gives milk to the family and works on the farm. The farmers do not make a lot of money, they can’t buy machines to help them do their work. Also the weather is a problem in India. In June, July, August and September there is a lot of rain. The ground gets very wet. Then the ground gets soft. A machine cannot work on soft ground but a caw can work. Caws also do not cost a lot of money. They don’t need gasoline or repairs like machines.

Farmers care about their caws very much. They want their caws to be happy. The farms aren’t busy at certain times of the year. At these times people wash and decorate their caws. Americans like to wash their cars and Indians like to wash their caws. Two times a year there are special celebrations for the caws. These celebrations are like Thanksgiving in the United States. All caws cannot work on the farms.

In India it is against a lot to kill a caw, so farmers send their old caws away from the farm. The caws walk around free in the streets. Sometimes men sell grass in the street. People buy the grass and give it to the caws. People also give their own food to the caws. And cars are careful not to hit the caws. There are special animal hospitals for old or sick caws. The government and some rich people pay for these hospitals.

People in other countries do not understand why the Indian government spends money on caws. There are many poor people in India who need money. Indians say that Americans spend more money on cats and dogs. People in India care for over two hundred million caws every year. They have cared for caws for a long time. It is a tradition that is thousands of years old.

Повторительно-обобщающий урок для 7 класса по теме “ENGLISH-SPEAKING COUNTRIES



Задачи: - закрепить лексико-грамматического материала в работе с кроссвордом, грамматическими упражнениями: употребление определенного артикля с географическими названиями, дифференциация форм Present Perfect / Past Simple;

- совершенствовать умения и навыки практического владения языком по теме по основным видам речевой деятельности: аудированию, чтению, говорению;

- расширить представление учащихся о культуре, традициях в англоязычных странах;

- воспитывать умение работать в группе;

- содействовать речевой активности на английском языке, развитию внимания, памяти, мышления.


PLAN OF STEPS


Step I. Introduction

The teacher greets the students and introduces the topic of the lesson.


Step II. Lexical Block

Ask the students what English-speaking countries they know. Tell the students that we are going to have an activity about every country. And we’ll start, surely, with the UK. Do the crossword puzzle in groups. Use the map.


Step III. Grammar Block

  1. Ask the students to tick the words in the crossword puzzle which they should use with the article “the”. Do exercise 2 in pairs.

  2. Ask the students the questions like these: Have you ever been to Australia? Did you speak English 10 years ago? What forms of verbs are used in the sentences?

  3. Read the teenagers’ stories, put the verbs into correct form. Use signal words.


Step IV. Listening

Ask the students to remember a big country in Asia where they speak English as the second official language. Listen to the text about India, try to answer the questions.


Step V. Speaking of Australia

  1. What is the word “Australia” associated with? Work in groups; write down the

key words and expressions. Set a strict time-limit. Check all together. Every group names their word; the other groups cross them out and don’t repeat. The winner is the team who names the last word.

  1. Use the key words and expressions and tell about Australia.


Step VI. Summing-up

Question/answer time.
