Lesson objective: to enrich students’ vocabulary with new words and terms; to listen and read for gist; to read for specific information; to teach students to explore the text and gain and retain new information; to improve learners’ practical skills in critical thinking and problem solving skills; to teach pupils to work together to compete a task and reach a final goal.
Equipment: CD, pictures of illustrations to the text, cards with words, colour stickers of two kinds.
T. Hello, my dear students! I am happy you are smiling and I do believe you’ll be able to solve all the problems concerning the theme of our lesson today. Look at the blackboard (pictures are stuck). Can you guess the theme of the lesson?
P1. May be people, who fight with crime?
T. Right you are! The theme of our lesson today is “Crime fighters”.
T. What would you like to learn and do today at the lesson? Take yellow sticker. Write down your ideas, please. Stick them on the blackboard, I’ll look through them.
T. OK, today at the lesson you’ll listen to the text and read it, learn new words and repeat the ones from the previous lesson, and by the end of the lesson you’ll be able to do the role-playing, express your opinion, give some advice, make the conclusion and evaluate your knowledge.

Questions to answer:
1. Is your job anything like what we see on CSI? (Crime Scene Investigation – popular crime drama series)
2. What’s the typical day like for you?
3. Can you tell us a little about the equipment and scientific methods you use?
4. What are the best and the worst parts of your job?
T. Two weeks ago I did shopping in the supermarket and somebody had stolen my purse. The police have found the thief. And now we are in a court. Will you choose any part you want to present in this role-playing: thief, police detective, witness, forensic scientist, lawyer, judge, jury (“for” and “against”). So, Your Honour, will you start the process.
(Every student plays his/her part in the game: asks questions, explains the situation, gives reasons, expresses opinion, gives promises, makes verdict).
Home work: I. ex.3 p. 101, complete the sentences (for the students of ordinary level)
II.Write questions to interview the local detective about the criminal situation in the community (for advanced students).
