Ulan-Ude city

     The city of Ulan-Ude, the capital of the Republic of Buryatia (the old name Verkhneudinsk) is situated on the banks of two rivers: the Selenga and the Uda.

 The memorial stone and an orthodox cross to commemorate the original foundation site of the city. They are set up on the place of the former Verkhneudinsky ostrog  on the rocky right bank of the Uda river. 

      Soviet Square is one of the finest open places in Ulan-Ude. The monument to V.I. Lenin is striking example of Soviet architecture. The monument is 7.5 metres high. They say this monument is in Guinness Book of Records. Soviet Square is the oldest centre of the city with its Opera and Ballet House, the cinema “Progress” and the hotel “Baikal. Every political, cultural and public event is held there: parades, concerts, shows, performances.

       Lenin street is the main street of the city. It crosses the central part of the city and links two squares: Revolution Square and Soviet Square. Most of the buildings along the street are historical and architectural monuments.

       Revolution Square is the first square in the city. In the centre of the square there were Bolshie Gostinie Rows and Trading Rows on the opposite side. In the center of the square there is a monument to fighters for communism. 

       Ulan-Ude is a cultural centre. It is famous by its theatres: the Buryat State Academic theatre of Opera and Ballet, the Khotsa Namsaraev Buryat State Academic theatre of drama, the Nicolai Bestuzhev Russian theatre   of drama, the Republican puppet-show “Uliger” and “Molodezhny” Art theatre.

Цели урока:  1. Расширить понятийную базу за счет включения в нее новых элементов по теме.

              2. Совершенствовать навыки монологической речи по теме «Город»

              3. Воспитывать у обучающихся интерес к изучению английского языка,  способствовать овладению им как средством общения, познания, самореализации.

Задачи урока:

·       Распознавать и употреблять в речи новые и изученные ранее лексические единицы по данной теме.

·       Читать текст страноведческого характера с полным его пониманием.               

·       Учить рассказывать о столице Бурятии, опираясь на иллюстрации.

·       Учить работать в группе, создавая плакат об Улан-Удэ.
