Цели:
познавательный аспект- знакомство с великими городами мира и их экологическими проблемами;
развивающий аспект- развитие самостоятельности, развитие способности к выбору выражений, адекватных ситуации общения, развитие коммуникативности;
воспитательный аспект-формирование взглядов на окружающий учащимися мир, на место человека в природе и обществе, на характер отношений к окружающей среде, в которой он живет;
учебный аспект-контроль уровня речевых умений.
Задачи:
способствовать развитию социально-активной личности;
контроль умения учащихся самостоятельно оценивать себя в разных видах речевой деятельности;
формировать потребности к самостоятельному труду
развитие навыков говорения
мотивировать учащихся к монологическому высказыванию и творческой деятельности.
Оборудование: лингафонный кабинет, DVD, компьютер, CD-ROM, опоры, дидактический материал , мультимедийная установка.

T.: Ladies and dg. We are glad to see you at our round table. The main task of it is to speak about the Great cities of the world and their ecological problems. We have met today to speak to each other. We are going to listen “ The British Isles”; to read the text :”England : a historical tour”; to speak about the Great cities of the world and their ecological problems. Your home work is SB. ex.2 p.174,AB.ex3 p.12

“ The British Isles”. Did you know that the British Isles doesn’t just mean the two large islands of Britain and Ireland? I hope, yes. Well, it’s time for our listening, take your card N1. You’ll answer for these questions:
1.What’s special about the geographical position of the British Isles?
2.What is Great Britain make up?
3. Which of them is the biggest?
4. Who is the head of the state?
5.What are the most famous cities of the UK?
6.What is London?

P1: 1. The British Isles is the name for a collection of about 4000 islands, including Great Britain and Ireland. The name, the British Isles, is usually only seen on maps.

P2: 2.Great Britain is the name of the largest island of the British Isles and is made up of England, Scotland, and Wales. The island of Great Britain is subdivided into two main regions – Lowland Britain and Highland Britain.
P3 : 3. England is the biggest part of the UK.
P4: 4. Queen Elizabeth II is the head of the state, but she has no real power. Britain is a parliamentary democracy with a constitutional monarch.

T. When I think about Britain and its people I imagine London, the Queen, rainy weather, tube. Today, there are representatives of the English-speaking world at our round table. We begin to speak about the great cities of the world and about their ecological problems. The representatives from these cities will show us their famous sights.

T1: Today, there is an ecologist at our round table. He is an assistant of professor. He has been working in environmental protection for 30 years.
T2: Hi! My name is… I’m from Saint-Petersburg. My city is one of the most beautiful cities of the world. St. Petersburg is the Venice of the north. The famous sights of my city are the Hermitage Museum, the Grand Palace, our bridges . Our city has got ecological problems: rubbish, the terrible traffic, dirty, deforestation, pollution air, water and land, global warming. Environmental problems have become exceptionally acute in Russia. For a long time too little attention was paid to the environment. My solutions about these problems.

Our time is characterized by rapid development of the cities and an aggravation of the problems connected with relationship of the nature and society. One of these problems - a contradiction between growth of the cities, on the one hand, and aspiration to keep wildlife in urban and suburban areas on the other hand.
Pollution of atmospheric air
According to 96% of inhabitants of our city lives in conditions of high and very high level of pollution of atmospheric air. The mass of polluting substances jumps out environment. One of the main pollutants of atmospheric air is motor transport which quantity steadily grows. In the conditions of such big city as Petersburg, the dangerous substances polluting air — carbon oxide, nitrogen oxide, nitrogen dioxide, a dust, sulfur dioxide and others and possessing ability to increase of the toxicity and very steady in environment cause many diseases. From a surface of a body and through respiratory ways chemical pollutants get inside and have pathogenic effect.
Environmental protection problems from pollution by waste
The problem of waste in St. Petersburg was called five years ago among priority. The quantity of waste annually increases by 1 resident. Collecting and recycling are one of the most important problems of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region. It is caused by a significant amount and a variety of structure of being formed waste. The problem is aggravated, in our opinion, also with that there are no exact data on quantity and quality of being formed waste. The economic situation in the country promotes that many small enterprises work without the strict reporting on waste, the period of work happens short, but waste manages to arrive in environment. Some confusion with issue of licenses for export of waste led to that dump garbage in unspecified places

Problem of protection of soils and vegetation
As well as for all large industrial cities, the problem of pollution of soils is very actual for the region. In recent years in St. Petersburg systematic examination of soils about pollution by their heavy metals is conducted. Researches show that the importance of lead, cadmic, zinc pollution is still great. Now it is possible to note that the problem of mercury pollution in the city isn't necessary so sharply and is under control.
Problems of protection of water objects
Sources of water supply of St. Petersburg originate in the Leningrad region. The city doesn't test a lack of water resources, as one of properties of the Leningrad region - numerous water objects. In area 1800 lakes, about 50 thousand water currents which total length exceeds 221 thousand km are. Lake Ladoga the largest source of water supply, at the same time serves as the receiver of dumping of waters from the enterprises that led to that in the lake emergence of the blue-green algas emitting strong toxins is noted. The river Neva following from Ladoga, belongs to moderately polluted, but deterioration of waters in it in recent years is noted. The Nevsky lip, in essence, is filled with waters which were days ago in Lake Ladoga. But during the way these waters qualitatively worsen because there is a dumping of the polluted waters from the enterprises. The condition of the Nevsky lip is reflected in a condition of a resort zone in east part of the Gulf of Finland. The Gulf of Finland and the Baltic Sea are quite strongly polluted as are subject to intensive anthropogenous influence. The significant contribution to this process is made by the Leningrad region and St. Petersburg, dumping the crude or poorly cleared sewage in area and city waterways.
Main methods of fight against environmental problems
— rational use of not renewable natural resources (minerals, mineral resources);
— rational use of renewable natural resources (soils, waters, plant and animal life);
— fight against pollution and other defeats of environment (toxic chemicals, radioactive waste and etc.

The main direction in development of agriculture of the advanced countries of the world — is an intensification which means the increasing transformation it in the knowledge-intensive production with use of new equipment, progressive technologies, modern agronomical science etc.

T.: Well, we are going to read. Take you text ,please. Before you start scanning read the questions through to yourselves. Now that you know what information you are going to look for start scanning the passage which follows. I’ll give you 5 minutes to finish this off.
Now begin and I’ll note the starting time. “England : a historical tour”.
Our first stop is the beach at Hastings where William the Conqueror’s armies arrived from Normandy in 1066, then we visit Battle Abbey , built by William to celebrate his victory, and watch actors in period costume re-enact the battle and the death of the English king Harold.
