The history of the microscope
2 слайд
What is a microscope?
A microscope is a device that allows to obtain an enlarged image of objects and structures that are inaccessible to the human eye.
3 слайд
Who invented the microscope?
It's unclear who invented the microscope. Some historians say it was Hans Lippershey, others claim it was Hans and Zacharias Janssen.
The only thing known for sure is that the microscope was invented in the 1590s.

Microscopes
In the practice of biomedical research two types of microscopes are used: a light microscope and an electron one.
Light microscope
Light microscopes can enlarge an object whose size may be up to 0.1 micron by more than 1500 times so that we can see only the shape of the object.
7 слайд
Electron microscope
Electron microscope makes it possible to study objects whose size is less than 0.1 micron and is used to study viruses, bacteriophages, the fine structure of microbial cells and other submicroscopic objects, as well as macromolecular structures.
8 слайд
Electron microscope
The electron microscope appeared due to Robert Rudenberg who patented a new device and Ernst Ruska who created a prototype of a modern electronic device, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize. Already in the late 1930s, his invention was widely used in scientific research. At the same time, Siemens started producing electronic microscopes.
