So, today we talk about memory.
And today we try to use the method “ Ministory” to remember our
new words and the main information of the lesson.
At first, you should read the 1 st part and answer the
questions.
1.Memory is a subject that has
fascinated scientists for centuries, and many studies have been carried out
of individuals who have enhanced memory capabilities. So, what about the rest
of us? Will we forever be forgetting birthdays and appointments and impotant
information? Experts think not. It is now generally accepted that having a
" good" memory is not genetic, but learned.
A) What is the subject that scientists
has fascinated for centuries?
B)Is the “ good memory” genetic or
learned?
2.Mnemonics
is basically a skill set that helps your brain remember, and anyone can
utilise it. One of the techniques is the use of acronyms. This is good for
long lists of words, but what about numbers? You could try the Major System
every number has a sound associated with it. For example, 7 is a hard
"c", 2 is "n" and 4 is "Y", so we can make the
number 724 into 'canary' by adding a few vowel sounds. In addition, you can
combine the Major System with visualisation- imagine a canary showing a film
on a jet plane to help you remember the word! Break the number into smaller
parts: 7-24 is a lot easier to remember.
A)What is mnemonics?
B)How can you remember numbers?
C)How can you use the visualization?
3.Proffesional
athletes often say "if you don't use it, you lose it." when talking
about their bodies' physical capabilities, the same is true of the brain. Try
solving maths problems in your head instead of using your phone's calculator,
or learn how to cook, knit, speak a new language or play a musical
instrument. It can be helpful and also fun to play word games with your
friends, draw a map from memory, or try to identify the ingredients in a dish
you haven't tasted before.
A)What
do often professional athletes say about physical capabilities?
B)
What can we do to train our brain?
4.It's
important to remember that lifestyle plays a role in brain function too.
Proper sleep is also fundamental. When you're sleeping, your brain is still
absorbing information and organizing your memories. What is more, getting a
good night's rest also boosts concentration during the day.
A)What is important role in
brain function?
B)
What happens when are you sleeping?
5.Most
of us blame our inability to remember on having a 'bad' memory , but the
truth is that we weren't paying attention when we first recieved the
information. In our fast-paced modern world, the words of eighteenth-century
English author Samuel Johnson still ring true: " The true art of memory
is the art of attention"
A)Why
do most of us blame “bad memory”?
B)What
did the writer Samuel Johnson say in 18th century?
