Start 4-5 min	Organizational moment. Teacher greets students. Asks routine questions: Who is absent today? What date is it today? What day of the week is today? Warm-up. “Complete the sentences” Activity Students are going to give advice to be healthy or fit and complete the sentence “You should … if you want to …” Teacher gives example. Differentiation: Less able learners will be given hint after if you want to.
Middle 3 min 7 min 3 min 5 min 4 min 8 min	Pre-reading W. Task 1. “Collage” Activity Learners look at the board and teacher asks some questions: §  What can you say about these pictures? §  Can you predict where it was held? §  And now, can you say what the theme of our lesson is?   While-reading I.  Task 2. “Scanning” Activity Reading for specific information: The learners read the text “Almaty Marathon” and answer the questions. The teacher puts the questions about the text on the board. After reading the text each learner chooses a question and gives his/her answer. Questions: 1.     When does Almaty marathon hold? 2.     When did it start? 3.     Which nationalities ran in the Almaty Marathon? 4.     Why did the organizers start marathon? 5.     What does challenge mean? 6.     Why do people like challenges? 7.     What is the other purpose to hold such events? 8.     Why do organizers need volunteers? 9.     How do you understand: It is better to do something for your community than not to do anything? Differentiation by choice and questioning: Less able learners will have an opportunity to choose the questions. High motivated learners will answer the high level questions. Task 3. “Find the Best One” Activity Each learner is given a laminated paper and a marker. They are going to work individually. The learners read the text again and choose the correct answer: Descriptor:             A learner ·        reads the sentences ·        chooses the correct answer using the information from the text AFL – Laminated Paper Speaking I. Task 3. “Performing” Activity A high motivated student shows his PP Presentation “The New York City Marathon”. Other students listen to him and make notes. Differentiation: A high motivated learner was given the task before the day of the lesson. AFL – “Two stars and a wish” P. Task 4. “Compare” Activity Learners work in pairs. The teacher gives the text “The New York City Marathon” and the chart with some information in it to each pair.  Learners compare two texts and complete the chart. Descriptor:             A learner ·        works in a pair ·        compares two texts ·        completes the chart ·        gives the correct answers AFL – Numbers Speak G. Task 5. “Advertisement” Activity Learners are divided into groups of four. They are going to pretend that they are organizers of Marathon. Their task is to make an advertisement for “City marathon”. After the discussion each group chooses the speaker to present their advertisement for 1 minute. Differentiation by ability: A high motivated learner will be a speaker.  Descriptor:             A learner ·        works in a group ·        discusses and gives ideas according to the topic ·        presents an advertisement for 1 minute AFL – 1 minute speech						Pictures on the board English Plus.
