2. “Scanning” Activity
Reading
for specific information:
The
learners read the text “Almaty Marathon” and answer the questions. The
teacher puts the questions about the text on the board. After reading the
text each learner chooses a question and gives his/her answer.
Questions:
1. When
does Almaty marathon hold?
2. When
did it start?
3. Which
nationalities ran in the Almaty Marathon?
4. Why
did the organizers start marathon?
5. What
does challenge mean?
6. Why
do people like challenges?
7. What
is the other purpose to hold such events?
8. Why
do organizers need volunteers?
9. How
do you understand: It is better to do something for your community than
not to do anything?
Differentiation
by choice and questioning: Less able learners will have
an opportunity to choose the questions. High motivated learners will answer
the high level questions.

Activity
Learners are divided into
groups of four. They are going to pretend that they are organizers of

the discussion each group chooses the speaker to present their advertisement
for 1 minute.
Differentiation by ability: A
high motivated learner will be a speaker.
