Theme: «Films and Cinema»

Aims of the lesson: to introduce students to the theme «Films and Cinema»

(Познакомить учащихся с темой «Фильмы и Кино»)

Educating: to broaden pupils’ horizons in using lexicon, grammar and speaking on this theme.

(Обучающая) Расширить кругозор учащихся в использовании лексики, грамматики и говорения по данной теме.

Developing: to develop children’s skills in speaking, listening and grammar.

(Развивающая) Развить навыки в говорении, слушании и грамматике.

Educational: to express own point of view, to raise motivation in studying English language.

(Воспитательная) Учиться выражать свою точку зрения, повышать мотивацию в изучении английского языка.

Equipment (Оборудование):

Distributing material, collage, cards with grammar exercises, a song.

Type of the lesson (Тип урока) – Traditional (Традиционный)

Methods of teaching: object, speaking.

Structure of the lesson: (Ход урока):

1. Organization moment: (Приветствие и объяснение целей урока)

- Good Afternoon! How are you? Sit down, please! Who is on duty today? What date is it today? What day is it today? Who is absent? How many lessons have you got today? What are they?

2. Phonetic drill:

- Today we shall speak about films and cinema. Answer my questions, please!

  • Do you like going to the cinema?

  • What do you prefer, going to the cinema or watching films on TV? And why?

  • Who is your favorite actor or actress?

  • What do you know about him or her?

  • What’s your favorite film? Why?

3.Before we shall start reading and translation of the text, open your vocabularies, please. Let’s write down the new words:

  • A waiter - [ˈweɪtə(r)] - официант

  • Headquarter - [ˏhedˊkwɔ:tə] - штаб-квартира

  • Eventuallyˊventʃυǝlɪ] – в конце концов, наконец

  • Walk-on part – [ˊwɔ:kɒn pɑ:t] – эпизодическая роль

  • Accountant – [əˊkaυntənt] – бухгалтер

  • Encourage – [ɪnˊkʌrɪdʒ] - воодушевлять

  • Championship – [ˊtʃæmpɪənʃɪp] – турнир, соревнование

  • Support – [ˊpɔ:t] - поддерживать

  • Delivery man – [ˊlɪvǝrɪ mæn] – доставщик

4. Now I’ll give you two texts. The first variant will read and translate the text under the letter A); and the second variant will translate the text under the letter B). I’ll give you 5 minutes to look through this text, and then we shall start to work!

A) Arnold Platt was born in Manchester, England, on 30 of July 1966. He wanted to be a movie star. In 1986, he moved to London, while he was living there he worked as a waiter in a pizza restaurant in Soho, near the headquarters of some big film companies. Eventually, he got a walk-on part in a film called «Road to Ruin». It was his first and last film part. He went back to Manchester. While he was living there he trained to be an accountant.

B) Jean-Claude Van Damme was born in Brussels, Belgium, in 1961. His father encouraged him to learn Karate. At the age of eighteen, he opened his own gymnasium. He won the European Professional Karate middleweight championship title. In 1981 he went to Los Angeles. He decided to work in films. He spoke no English and supported himself by working as a taxi driver and pizza delivery man. In 1985 he appeared in his first film.

At the next lesson we shall start the theme: «Music». Your home task will: to look through the pages from 159 till 161. And translate the texts from exercise 4, 5 on page 160.
