(on the board)
T: What theme are these words related to?
So, the theme of our lesson “Work. Job” (on the board)
Let’s find the difference between the words WORK/ JOB/ PROFESSION
WORK - means to have a job, to do the job that you are paid for.
JOB - the regular paid work that you do for an employer.
PROFESSION - a job that needs a special education and training.
-Is it easy to choose a profession?
- Have you decided what you are going to do after school?
T: Finishing school is the beginning of the independent life for millions of school leavers. Many roads are open before them: technical schools, colleges, universities. It is not easy to choose a profession out of all existed in the world. Some pupils follow their parents’ advice, others haven’t decided yet.
Let’s read a poem “I want to be”. (написать в тетрадях какие профессии)
Some people often say to me:
“Have you decided what you want to be?”
I usually answer: “I don’t know”
But it isn’t really so.
I want to win an Olympic race,
I want to see the Earth from space,
I want to build the houses and schools too.
I want to be on Hollywood screen,
I want to invent a new machine
I want to be very clever and wise
I want to win the Nobel prize.
But most of all, I want to be
Healthy and strong, and nice.
-What do you think, what is this poem about?
-What kind of professions are named? Can you name them?
(sportsman, spaceman, builder, actor, engineer)
T: For our productive work we must do some useful exercises.
Let’s revise some popular professions. Guess the word. (записать в тетрадях)
Read the definitions and find the professions.(cards)
A person who helps people with the law or talk for them in court. (A lawyer)
A person who grows food in his or her fields. (A farmer)
A person trained to look after sick animals (A vet)
A person whose job is to stop a fire. (A fireman)

A person who cuts, washes and styles people’s hair.(A hairdresser)
A person who works in an office and deals with correspondence filing, etc. (A secretary)
A person who looks after people’s teeth. (A dentist)

Sociable, creative, patient, brave, polite, active, attentive, confident, determined, fair, imaginative, responsible, cooperative, tolerant, understanding, careful, courageous, intelligent. (on the board)

To my mind a good teacher should be…
An engineer should be…
A good actor should be…
A good doctor should be…
A good manager should be…
T: Read the text about different skills for a manager. Your task is ask questions to the text.
The question “What makes a manager successful?” often comes up. First of all, a manager needs the right kind of professional support. In other words a good manager requires the assistance of a good secretary. A good secretary needs to have the right kind of secretarial skills. These include the ability to use modern technology, such as computers. These are additional skills that are just important. More and more manages need secretaries who can speak several foreign languages fluently. Success of failure in international negotiations can depend on this. This requirement is often stressed in job advertisements today. Many applicants are rejected because the candidates lack such skills.
Read the following jobs. For which do you need English?
account journalist lawyer actor nurse worker
banker dancer secretary judge reporter dentist
engineer manager bodyguard teacher politician nurse
Listen to the interviews then watch the sequence and match each person to their job.
(on the board)
So, let’s make a conclusion. What do we mean when we say JOB description?
Make a claster (Job description) (training, payment, working hours, satisfaction, holidays, responsibility)
