Тема урока: Save the Earth

  1. Warming up

  • Good afternoon, dear friends! My name’s Tatiana Vladimirovna, I’m an English teacher from Gymnasia № 1in Belebey and today we have a great chance to work together during the lesson.

  • I’d like you to guess the topic of our lesson. Look at this video and please give your ideas. (Просмотр видеоролика. Отвечают дети.)

  • Yes, you are right. The topic is Save the Earth.

  1. Vocabulary

To start speaking about ecology we need to revise the vocabulary. You can use your Student’s Book, Module 8A or World List.

Dear friends, there are plans on your desks. Look at your papers. Take part 1.You have 2 columns of words, match them to form phrases about ecology. Use pencils and do the exercise. Raise your hands. (Если делают ошибки, я исправляю, дети повторяют.)

Acid rain

Water pollution

Factory waste

Loss of natural habitats

Toxic fumes

Burn petrol

Solar power

Well done! How clever you are!

  • So what are all these phrases about? – These are environmental problems. (Прикрепляю плакат.)

  • Look, so many problems! Different ecological organizations do a lot to help the nature . But it’s not enough. So what can we, ordinary people, do to save the Earth? Let’s discuss it.

  1. Reading.

  • Your next task is reading, Part II.

  • Dear boys and girls, imagine you are the members of the Eco-club working in 4 groups. Now I’d like you to do some reading. Please read the text, find out the problem, the causes of the problem and the ways of solving it. Please use the plan . You have only 1 minute, so do your best! (Показываю план. Подхожу к каждой группе, подсказываю).

  • Speaking

Now I’d like you to use your plan and speak about the ecological problems of your group. (Ученик выходит, выбирает проблему, прикрепляет к доске).

-What is the problem in the text?

-What causes it?

-Read the ways out?

As you see, there are 4 main problems in the environment. (Показываю на список проблем на доске)

  • Reading (a poem)

What can we do to help the Earth?

There are many ways how to save the Earth. Let’s read the sentences one by one. Zlata, begin please. (Дети читают по порядку предложения.)

Put the rubbish in a bin,

Recycle plastic bags,

Open cans – don’t throw away.

Teach the cycle of life,

Enjoy the nature,

Clean out the ponds,

Try to reduce pollution.

Very well! Now read the capital letters. So what do we do? – We protect the Earth! (All together!)

!!!!! Homework: You like the poem, don’t you? It was my surprise. I made it myself. Make a similar poem on ecological problems.

  1. Let’s relax!

Now we’ve done a lot, haven’t we? So it’s time to relax. Stand up please.

Stretch your hands to the bright sun, wave your hands, bend left and right like trees on a windy day. Well done! Take your seats.

  1. Listening

You know there are quite a lot of eco-clubs all over the country. Students in Belebey are also worried about the environment. Now you will find out what their members of the club have been doing to protect nature for a year.

Please in your plans look at Part III. Listen to the text and watch the video. Use Present Perfect Continuous (на экране высвечивается формула Present Perfect Continuous) to make sentences on your papers. Let’s revise the formula. (Я проговариваю формулу, читаю пример)

  • Listen to the text again. Without the video. (без картинок).

  • Now please read the sentences. How clever you are!

  • You liked the film, didn’t you?

  1. Speaking

This was the film about the students of Gymnasia № 1 in Belebey. Now what do you personally do to help the environment? Let’s find out. Look, there are 14 parts of a big puzzle (you and me, because we are a team). One by one come to the blackboard and make up sentences in Present Perfect Continuous. There’s a phrase to help you. I will start.

e.g. I’ve been cleaning the pond.

Look at this beautiful world! How nice and clean it is! And we did it together.

-You like it, don’t you?

  • Dear boys and girls, that was our last task. We’ve done a lot together. So recall some moments of the lesson.

What was the topic of the lesson?

Do you remember the problems?

Now we know how to help the Earth, don’t we?

I hope the lesson was interesting and useful, I do believe you are going to be very clever and responsible people in the future, aren’t you?
