This game is played on a court with a large orange ball. There are 5 players in each team. Two teams try to score goals by throwing a ball through a net fixed to a metal ring at each end of court. The players bounce the ball while running, and pass it to each other. The team with the most points wins. ( Basketball).

Judo became popular in the 17th – 19th centuries. In 1886 police officers started to learn judo. 1.-Hi, Olga! Nice to meet you.
- Hello! I’m really glad to see you too.
- What are you doing here?
- I think I am getting out of shape. So I’ve decided to do sport.
- That’s great! You can join me. I do aerobics here. Aerobics classes are very popular and a lot of people go to them.
- I’m afraid, I prefer smaller classes. It’s not so embarrassing when you make mistakes. I’ll try something else.
- OK. What is your favourite sports?
- Oh, many of them. I love athletics. But I’d prefer to watch it – not to do it myself. I think I will go swimming. Is there a swimming pool here?
- Sure. It’s over there. Shall I show you the way?
- No, thank you. I’ll find it myself. See you later.
2. – Hi, Helen! I haven’t seen you for ages! You look so wonderful.
- Hello, Mary. You are also in a good sporty form. What do you do to keep fit?
- I visit a fitness club twice a week. There is one not far from my house. And you?
Do you do any sport?
What sport is it?
Is it? But it’s so dangerous. I can’t imagine you in the mountains!
I agree with you that it is a risky sport but it helps to be strong, patient, persistent and find reliable friends.
Where do you do it?
Every summer my friends and I go to the Caucasus. What splendid time we have there!
It’s great! Good luck to you. I hope I will see you again. Bye.
The same to you. Good-bye.
3.- Hello, Kate!. Nice to see you. You look very healthy and happy.
- Hi, Ira! Glad to meet you too. Thank you for your compliment . It’s all due to my fitness classes.
- Are there any fitness clubs in your place?
- Yes, there is one and I go there three times a week. And you? Do you go in for sports?
- Yes, I do. I am good at skiing. I am fond of this kind of sport.
-Where do you do it?
- In summer I roller ski and in winter I ski in the park or in the fields.

- Certainly. More than that , I often get prizes in them.
- I am glad for you. I wish you good luck in future. I was happy to see you. Bye.
- Thank you. The same to you. Good bye.
Let’s check the words on the netbooks. You are right.
But more and more people today like to do extreme sports. What extreme sports do you know?
Now look at the screen, read the descriptions and guess the sport.
Показывается презентация об экстремальных видах спорта.
Teacher: -Why do people do these sports?
Pupils: -People do these sports because they want to
- keep fit.
- look athletic.
- develop the body.
- feel joy and excitement.
- make families worry about them.
- show off.
- impress people around them.
- prove how fearless they are
- have enough money to do them.
Teacher: - Are you for or against extreme sports? We shall divide into two groups. The first group will stand for extreme sports and the other one will be against them. Find the sentences to prove your opinions.
( М.З. Биболетова- уч. -9 кл., упр. 65, 67, стр. 176-177 )
-As for me I am for extreme sports because
If you are in a good physical condition you can do any sport. The risk is reasonable.
- The more dangerous the sport is, the more attractive it is.
Extreme sports help people escape from their problems.
If a person does a dangerous sport, it means he is very brave.
If you do such sports, you can impress your family and friends.
Only extreme sports help you find good and reliable friends.
- As for me I am against extreme sports because
- It can happen and it does happen very often that people who do extreme sports get injured.
- This is a kind of activity that can cause death.
- Other people can experience unpleasant or even dangerous results due to another person’s activity.
- Sports that can cause injuries should be prohibited.
- Sports like BASE jumping or skateboarding in cities are uncivilized.
- It’s silly to do dangerous sports and risk your life or your health. There are already too many dangers in our life.
Teacher: And to my mind, everyone has the right to do any sport he or she likes but only if it doesn’t do any harm to other people.
Our lesson comes to the end and as the last task I’d like you to do a crossword puzzle connected with our topic.
Swimming, high jump, tennis, gymnastics, football, relay race, hockey, basketball, discuss, karate, archery, cycling, cricket.
Thank you very much for your good work. The lesson is over and you may be free.
