Boys and girls! Today we are going to speak about sport. And we start our talk with English phonetics. Mind your sounds that everybody could understand you.

Thank you. More and more people all over the world do different sports nowadays. Why do they do them?

They do it because it’s in fashion or it’s interesting to take a chance and self-express.
It teaches you to be disciplined.
It makes you strong.
Sport makes men out of boys.

It’s a game of two players. Each of them starts with 16 different playing pieces to move on a board. The aim is to move your pieces so that your opponent’s king will be taken. ( Chess).
This game is played on a court with a large orange ball. There are 5 players in each team. Two teams try to score goals by throwing a ball through a net fixed to a metal ring at each end of court. The players bounce the ball while running, and pass it to each other. The team with the most points wins. ( Basketball).
It is a game between two teams and is played on a field with a bat and a small white ball. Each team consists of 9 players. The teams take turns playing in the field and batting the ball. The game has 9 innings. ( Baseball).
It’s one of the most popular sports in our country. It has a glorious history and traditions. Our sportsmen have usually been the first and had great success. All over the world people have been coming to see their unforgettable performances. It is the unity of music, plastic, dancing and wonderful costumes. The championships are real fairy -tale shows on ice. ( Figure skating ).
Each team must have 6 players. The server may hit the ball with a hand or any part of the arm. He must release the ball from his other hand before hitting it. Players must not touch the net. ( Volleyball).
Judo became popular in the 17th – 19th centuries. In 1886 police officers started to learn judo. In 1964 judo appeared in the Olympic programme.The two participants must bow to each other at the start of the contest. They should wear white clothing. They must only attack the arms and legs of their opponent. ( Judo).
Participants are weighed before the contest. Their assistants must leave the ring before the fight begins. Participants must wear gloves and must not hit an opponent behind the neck. ( Boxing).
The game can be played by two or four players. You can play it at home or in the gym. You need a partner, a table, a small ball, a net and two small bats. The players must change position after each game. The ball must touch the table on both sides of the net each time it is hit. ( Table tennis ).
The game became popular in the end of the 19th century. The first water polo match was played in 1869.Each team may have up to 11 players, only 7 of whom are allowed to play at the same time. One team should wear blue caps, the other white. Players must not splash water into an opponent’s face. ( Water polo).

It’s usually associated with Australia or California, with sunny climates and ocean, joy and rest. But to do this sport you have to be strong, brave and patient. ( Surfing)
It’s the cheapest but very healthy form of sports. Nothing is needed. You get up in the morning and travel on foot enjoying the countryside. ( Walking).
It’s called the sport of kings. Few people do this sport, most of them watch it or try to win some money. ( Horse riding).
