Today we shall speak with you about celebration of Christmas in Great Britain and in our country. Let’s divide into two teams : the team of Santa Claus and the team of Father Frost.

If you get out a picture connected with Russian holiday , come to the team of Father Frost.

If you get out a picture connected with British holiday , come to the team of Santa Claus


I) A teacher: What date is it today?

-Pupil: It is the 25 of December

A teacher: What holiday do people celebrate in Great Britain?

-Pupil: Merry Christmas

3) Why is this holiday called Christmas?

-It is called Christmas because Jesus Christ was born.

A pupil :The Bible tells us an interesting story of shepherds who were watching their sheep when the angel appeared to them He told them that a Savior had been born .in Bethlehem.

The Shepherds went there to see Jesus. The baby Jesus was born in a stable His mother was the Virgin Mary and his father was Joseph .The .Bible tells us how the Wise men followed a star until it led them to Jesus.

The Wise men gave Jesus many Gifts. That’s why people nowadays try to please their friends and relatives giving them Christmas presents.

Teacher : What is there in churches on this day?

Pupils: On this day many people go to churches on masses.

On Christmas Eve, there are evening church services which everyone attends.

A teacher: Where do people celebrate Christmas?

Pupil: Going home for Christmas is a most cherished tradition of the holiday season. No matter where you may be the rest of the year, being at "home" with your family and friends for Christmas is "a must." This means that the house will be full of cousins, aunts and uncles that might not see each other during the year.

Today we can speak about the rebirth of religion in our country.

-A pupil: The traditional dinner in Russia is kutya, if kutya is good the coming year will be a happy one.

- A pupil: They ask: “ Do you love me? “

3) A teacher: Must an answer be honest and why?

- A pupil: It must be honest because it was forbidden to tell a lie on such a day because the Earth will hear you.

4) A teacher: What was not allowed for the mistress or the master to do on this day?

- A pupil: It was forbidden to leave the house. They had to warm themselves in their own hearts .The mistress must bake own bread

- A pupil: Martin Luther .He decorated it in 1513.

A pupil: It became popular in 1840. Prince Albert took the tradition to England , then German and English people brought it to America.

You know that English children write their wish on the pieces of paper, put the paper into a stocking. At night Santa Claus comes through the chimney into houses , reads their wishes and puts presents into the stockings.

I want you to write your wishes on these beautiful “ baubles” and I think that your wishes come true .

Teacher: Listen to a fairy -tale about the Little Fir-Tree

The Little Fir-Tree

A little fir-tree lived in the forest. It had leaves like long green needles.

It was a pretty little tree, but it was not happy.

One day it said, "I do not like needles. My needles are hard. The birds will not .nest in them. All the other trees have leaves. I wish I had green leaves."

Next day, when the little tree woke up, it had green leaves. It was just like the other trees.

"Now I am happy," it said. . But a goat came and ate all the green leaves.

"Oh!" said the fir-tree. "I wish I had gold leaves. Goats do not eat gold leaves."

Next day, when the little tree woke up, it had gold leaves.

"How happy I am!" it said.

But a man came, took all the gold leaves and put them into a bag.

"Oh!" said the fir-tree. "I wish I had glass leaves. Nobody will want my glass leaves."

Next, day, when the little tree woke up, it had glass leaves.

"How happy I am!" it said. "See my leaves shine in the sun!"

But suddenly a strong wind began to blow, and broke all the glass leaves.

"Oh!" said the fir-tree. "I wish I had my needles again. Goats do not eat them. Men do not want them. The wind will not break them."

Next day it had all its needles again.

"Oh, I never was so happy!" said the little fir-tree.

Teacher: Do you like the fairy-tale? Why?


Teacher: We know that postmen have a lot of work before holidays.

What clothes did they wear in the past?

Pupil: Many years ago postmen had bright red coats. They looked like robins. At Christmas they brought many Christmas cards.

If you find a button in your piece of pudding you will be rich. a horseshoe means happiness and good luck. a ring – marriage.
